wbailey22 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 hi there relatively new rider here (august 2023) i purchased an ajs jsm 50 for my first bike, i was never interested in the whole moped idea my knowledge on bikes is very limited but i know the basics, so just wanted a few ideas on what i can do to improve the speed of my bike it’s a completely stock set up and it will reach 40mph comfortably i have since become use to this speed and am wanting to make it hit around 55 as a top speed or 50 to cruise around at however don’t want to put a huge hole in my wallet at the same time people say not to push it any further but i’m a quick learner and have become very comfortable on it i’ve also been told this bikes just a cheap knock off to another knock off, despite this i wont listen i wouldn’t even fuss if i got it running at 45 for its top speed can anybody give me advice on how to get it running just a tad faster ? i’ve looked into changing the sprockets but i believe it’s massively held back due to its rev limiter regardless ( tops out at 7k revs ) i know a lot of people will disregard this and tell me not too because its just a geared 50 but i’m just asking for a little advice Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) Sadly I don't think you can do much to a moped legally to increase its speed over what you have got. I get you don't want to but if you are serious about going faster get a 125. Edited December 4, 2023 by S-Westerly Quote
Old-codger Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 You cant modify the moped legally to go faster than 45kph or 28mph if that is all you are allowed to ride. If you are old enough to ride something bigger sell the Chinese AJS and buy something else as S-westerly suggested. Quote
Nick the wanderer Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Hi, Sounds like you are getting on ok with your 50 which is a good thing. You are saying it yourself though, you need to move up the cc's to get what you want. Once you do you'll be wondering why it took you so long. Quote

RideWithStyles Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Yep as others say: no point in throwing money at it, just change it to something that is better out of the create. Quote

Tinkicker Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) Oh dear. A moped or 50cc motorcycle driven on l plates in the UK shall not have a design speed of more than 31mph. M in your zeal to pontificate your expertise, you have broken a major rule of this forum in that you are encouraging breaking the law. Your knowledge is not unique, nor is it particularly showing any particular or unique expertise, but it does show a lack of respect to the aims of this forum and to the ideals that its members subscribe. That is to give the best advice available, to the widest audience that may contribute, or just look in from time to time; all of course, within the law of the land. Privately, we may occasionally hit 150mph on a secluded stretch of road, but never ever broadcast it here. I do hope you delete your post. Edited November 29, 2024 by Tinkicker 1 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 It's almost a year old so bit of a zombie thread. Quote
