Travs1234 Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Good afternoon, Passed my MOD 2 on Tuesday, I’d already purchased a Ninja 650 which has a Bike Trac tracker on it. Having had the bike for a few weeks I've noticed the Battery is not holding a charge for long (it was a new battery when purchased). I'm concerned that this tracker is the reason it’s not holding a charge. I appreciate the tracker will need some current. Do any of you experienced people know any decent Motorcycle Electricians around Dumbarton/Glasgow just to get it checked out see if it fitted correctly? Kind regards Travs Quote
AstronautNinja Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 I'd be inclined to disconnect the tracker for a week and see how it goes 1 Quote
husoi Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 I would be more technical and precise. Disconnect the battery, connect an amperimeter to the cable and check for parasite currents. Then start unplugging elements until funding the culprit 4 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Bike batteries aren't huge so even a tiny drain flattens them quite quickly. My CBF has an alarm on it that drains the battery so I keep it on a maintenance charger. That also seems to keep the battery lasting longer as my batteries outlast my mates' batteries by years. As said above, if you've got a multimeter check for current flow and disconnect circuits until you identify the cause. 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) Well done on the mod. Especially lithium ones as the capacity is terrible like 1/4 at best. so add a device and a little resistance/ is enough to ruin your day. great for a quick single crank when cold but after that your running the risk of killing it as they dont like ( )to drop many volts and no way as recoverable as lead acid bats. so if its drained enough to not start a bike generally (left lights on too long) they are Goosed…so expensive. Yorky Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 +1 for the optimiser. Both my bikes sit on Optimates all the time they are parked up. 1 Quote
manxie49 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Well done on the MOD2. I used to have a Datatool tracker fitted to one of my bikes and had a similar issue to what you're having. I did what was suggested, disconnected it and indeed did find that the tracker was the cause of my problems. It was an old battery though, once I replaced the battery it seemed to be fine. I'm another fan here for Optimate, use them on both my bikes and never have any issues. 2 Quote
