Guest Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 On the way back from my Mod 1 test today, my instructor and I took the 50+ mile route from exeter up the A377. Its a nice road, I was on an ER5 and it should of been a comfortable, enjoyable experience. ts the first time I have been able to have any real "fun" on a bike, some long straights and lots & lots of twistys.Thing is, it scared me! Sometimes, i would swoop round a corner beautifully and it felt great. Others it was awful and it felt like i was understeering. I genuinely thought I was going into the hedge on more than one occasion!Anyone else get this? Does it get better with time? Or should I just put it down to lack of experience and just go with my instincts, rather than trying to negotiate and plan each bend?OK, it was mostly good fun but, I would rather not die... If im honest.Cheers. Quote
techno Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It will get better with experiance, I used to go out and have what I would call an ooeer moment and took it as a sign to slow down a bit.But we still all get those moments at some point especially on new roads Quote
Stu Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 lack of experience it will get better just ride slower and you will improve and get the feel of it Quote
Sheep_onna_Bandit Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm still having those moments on my new bike to be honest. After 4 years on a Harley, getting on board a 1250 Bandit is a million miles from the tractor I used to ride and I sometimes forget myself on bends and find I'm going in a little "hot", so to speak! mojobanana Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Perfectly normal, I've only been riding for 6 months and still get that sometimes. You'll build up your experience and you'll get more off the, "Woo hoos!" and less of the, "Eurghhs!" Quote
Korben Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Perfectly normal... Just ride within your limits and you will suddenly discover that a corner you were worried about taking at say 30, you will be doing at 50 in no time... I remember shortly after passing taking a corner at 30mph and I thought I was going to lowside. Less than a year into riding and I was taking that corner at twice the speed... Quote
Alex Gold Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Just a case of learning that you can actually lean the bike a hell of a lot further than you first think...I actually crashed (well, slid off) due to panicking that I was coming into a corner at 60....I've since gone round it at 85 Quote
Jixerman Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 You can watch your speedo's as your going round?!?! Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 as said here before, take things steady and your progress will build with your espeience, its better to go in slow and come out fast and strong on the gears than hot and heavy thinking ohhh F***,and after 8 years biking i still have corner moments, Quote
