I can stand on mine and the bike won't move if I get it wrong that's why it's important to learn the technique It's a hard one to explain its a quick action with force and it will pivot up on to the stand. I struggled for months to get it right

There should be no pulling upwards of any bike as you put it on the centre stand you should only stabilise it. The action should all be in your legs and feet on to the centre stand pushing it down in to the ground. Try the piece of wood though just bear in mind it doesn't need to be thick just 20mm or so is enough and you will need to be able to remove it from under the wheel when it's on the stand

Put the rear wheel on a piece of wood it helps a lot Also look at your technique as you shouldn't be hurting your back or lifting it. It's all in your legs and standing on that centre stand with a swift action

Heat Heat Heat! Get it nice and hot the alloy will expand quicker and should crack it loose also hammer a torx in to it Put the wheel on blocks of wood while doing this to save the wheel being on the floor the heat will also break any locktite thats on there too

Security for the centre stand? who is going to nick that I hear you say More of a belt and braces opportunist thief stopperer I saw someone who was modifying centre stands for the GS which allowed you to insert a lock on to it so you can't take the bike off the centre stand which I thought was a good idea to stop any opportunist thieves while out touring etc The centre stand was off to be powder coated anyway so I thought sod it whats the worst that can happen Here's the result Just need to tidy it up a touch shot blast the centre stand and away for powder coating

Definitely sounds like a duff battery to me

This is why I asked if its new I would be expecting at least 25k

Another good check is to stick a multimeter on the battery and hit the starter and see what the voltage drops to

That's the one It lasts a while though A lot of people are using other greases but they are not the same! This stuff actually creates a seal

No where near enough from the optimate they only put out 0.8 amps you would need around 200 amps to start it If it's gone green within 30 minutes then I suspect something is wrong as a flat battery would take a few hours to go green on an optimate

Yup that's right I'm on my phone and couldn't be bothered to type all that There is a lot of people speculating that the air inside the swing arm is warming up and escaping then when dropped in to a ford it cools down and sucks water in! Personally I think it's because the grease that seals it dries out and people are too cheap to buy the correct grease to seal the gaiters! It's 30 quid for 50g tube

The issue is that the boot can allow water in as with all seals if not maintained properly The one way valve that's being fitted is only to gs models and police and blood bikes RT's and not civilian spec RT's The problem isn't the lack of grease but water ingres in to the cv joint which can be an issue on any shaft driven bike.
