  4. Thank you @Punts That's easy to understand explanation. I won't be fitting one any time soon (although it would double the scrap value), I was curious about it.
  5. That's a very good point, and the sort of thing that nobody tells you...
  6. Thanks @rob m I do use my clutchless up shift a lot, but that works with a momentary drop in power. I guess a quick shift isn't that different.
  7. Well, I think I have my answers, I've watched these videos. I do think it seems a bit savage on the engine and final drive though...
  8. I've never had one on a bike, in fact, I've never even had a gear indicator. What is a quick-shifter, how do they work, are they REALLY that good? I hear many, many bikes passing our farm, and I can tell who has one, to me though, it does sound like quite a sudden demand on the engine, I can't imagine that it does the engine any good. Is the clutch involved? If it is, isn't it going to cause premature wear from slamming through the gears? More importantly, have I completely got "the wrong end of the stick"? Cheers boys and girls....
  9. Is that just the locals, or actual sheep?
  10. A good afternoon out by the look of it. Lovely picture of the loch.
  11. HI Chris, progress is progress. Two things I notice, firstly is that vest. With that big shiny red "L" plate on the vest, you're giving the modern day motorist too much credit to be as nice and as kind as you are on the road, they're just seeing a great excuse to treat you like a numpty, they're seeing that vest and instead of cutting you some slack, they're taking advantage. I would personally switch to a standard Hi-Viz. Secondly, I have a feeling that when you're changing down gear, you don't have enough rev's, that engine needs to have a little speed to throw the synchromesh into place. I could be talking bollox, but I've always giving the throttle a little blip to change down, and I find it helps.
  12. Hi @shelmet, and welcome to the forum. Have you looked for something obvious like a wire that's been rubbed bare? You might have to dig around for it. I'd say you're in a way, lucky, a burning smell near the back of the engine kinda makes it easier to locate the fault. You just need to get brave with the tools, and start removing the panels to reveal where the smell is coming from.

  16. Cheers, I was hoping you'd say that, as that's how I imagined it.
  17. Wow! Where are you going?
  18. @S-Westerly When the tugs are on, do you also move under your own steam whilst the tugs tow you into position, or is it just the tugs that do all the work?
  19. Good morning bikers
  20. We have 37 horses and a dog that don't like fireworks, our neighbours are quite understanding. But even half a mile away they're still causing us a problem.
  21. I'm really rather jealous @rob m That sounds like a good run. I was hoping to get out tomorrow, but too much work.
  22. @Grumpy Old Git Crikey, keep hitting that save button, and back up the documents to at least a thousand different locations

  24. So in December 2022 I bought a Ring Automotive 12/24v battery charger, a very heavy and robust bit of kit. I bought it from Halfords for £119 through our farm business. I only used it a few times, so when it failed a few months ago at just 18 months old, I was a bit miffed. I realised a short while ago that Halfords offer 2 year warranties, but when I enquired, it's only on their own Halfords labelled products. I never complain about anything, and I didn't this time, instead I filled in a contact form on the Ring Automotive website, telling them that it was a great product but that I was disappointed it had failed after so little use. I received a next day reply form a chap who said that if I could send him parts from the charger that they needed for refurb's, he would send me a replacement!! What a result. Being so busy, and a little forgetful, It took me three weeks to get the darned parts delivered back to him, and once again, I received an immediate reply, but sadly, they no longer sock that model. I suggested that I would be grateful for a discount code for the next model up, but he did way better than that, he replaced my £119 heavyweight charger with a smart charger that cost me nothing, and actually retails from them at £365, but can be had for about £250. Jeeeeeez, I'm absolutely gobsmacked. In an age when customer service from so many businesses can be so poor, this guy saved the world. A true legend. This is what he sent me. https://www.ringautomotive.com/en/product/RSCP3024
