  1. So why not put all of these speed cameras to productive use?? The camera can be programmed to take the reg number and compare it to a reliable database and if it finds a vehicle that is not taxed, MOT'd or insured , send round the police. Better still, most petrol stations have a security system ... just link that into the database. Everyone has to stop for fuel at some time! Will make a change for the system to be doing something useful!
  2. Yes, as at present... Seller removes tax disc as it's not included in sale, sends it off for refund, meanwhile new owner gets new tax. no you can't, i know this for fact as i try putting dla tax on the car and they can't do it till the old tax as been cancel In which case the old owner will have to be able to cancel VED instantaneously before the vehicle is transferred (which isn't going to happen) and new owner will have to be able to acquire VED instantaneously at instant of transfer (again, isn't going to happen). As have been said before, this hasn't been thought out well OR we have not been given the full facts about how it can be implemented. Either way, the government gains revenue for every vehicle transfer! IMHO, nothing to do with preventing evasion and everything to do with topping up the coffers
  3. Pretty much the advice given above. I am currently studying level 6 with the OU and it is difficult. If it were easy everyone would be doing it for a past time. That does not mean that not everyone can do it because they can. The thing that I have found the most helpful was making out a comprehensive diary. Allocating slots for certain study periods. Don't panic if you fall a little behind, just give yourself an extra bit of time to catch up. I know that this is easier to say than to do and trust me I have been there many times. Sometimes we just have to sacrifice something for study. That afternoon in the park with the kids or that hours in the sun on the bike or whatever you need to sacrifice to get to where you want it to be. Another thing that helps me stay on track is this. I have made up a fake BSc Maths degree certificate and hung it on the wall over my study desk. At the first sign of giving up I look at the fake certificate and think that will be a real one one day! Surprising how you find that extra boost of energy all of a sudden. Feel free to PM me even if it is only to rant. Sometimes that is all that is needed to recharge those batteries. Oh, and, well done for taking up the challenge!
  4. What's the point in that? You will learn nothing ... only set answers to set questions. Whats' the point in going to school? They may as well send you home the answers to the exams for you to learn. the book I suggested practically does this ... you have to put some effort into learning though!
  5. https://www.gov.uk/practise-your-driving-theory-test Here is a good start
  6. Not necessarily mate. 2013 is just as good. They do update from time to time though personally, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't want to go more than a year or so back!
  7. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Official-DSA- ... 5661b7da72 This is what I used. The questions aren't out to trick you mate, just to make sure that you are safe. make sure that you understand the contents here and you'll be ok. You can also get yourself a copy of the CD-ROM which will help you with the question in 'mock' tests, including the hazard perception part.
  8. I always go down the 'if it won't last 3 years why on Earth would I want to buy it' route ... they usually do back pedal when they realise they may lose a sell. And that is with any electrical appliance!
  9. Look on the bright side mate ... you have two weeks in Spain to look forward to. Seriously, if you weren't nervous my Dad always said it wasn't worth doing. He was married three times and only the third was he nervous about, and he stayed with her till he passed away. Death by nagging is not as quick as you might think. Congrats. Nothing wrong with married life as long as you both work on it. I wouldn't be without my wife for all the bike's in Fowlers. Well, sounds better than all the tea in China!
  10. Don't speed up to create a gap mate. Slow down to create more time for you and the ar*ehole to react!
  11. Vauxhall Zafira 7 seater. Needed something big enough to get the kids in when the Ford Galaxy past away
  12. Thanks Maccy. Perhaps I just have to look for a better fitting pair.
  13. Guys I have knuckle plates in my gloves and while the right one is fine, I find that the left one hurts across the knuckes. Is there anything I could do to ease this or is simply getting larger gloves? I have a smallish hand and these are supposed to be medium fit.
  14. I think mine is fairly self explanatory too. I'm 54 and just passed my bike test (Aug 2013)
  15. Similar to me ... I took my car test about 30 years ago and since passed IAM and RoSPA in the car. Riding the bike I tend to position for safety and best view which caused a little problem for my test. Apparently the DSA wanted me to ride their way not the safest way! Although I managed to contain myself on test, during training I was constantly told to maintain the dominant position and stop moving to the crown to give a safety margin for vehicles approaching left junction and especially on bends I would position to give the best view ... not liked by the DSA
  16. My wife works in Insurance and this is what she said. More affluent, 'posher' area means higher payouts for more expensive cars! The company she works for also increase your premiums when buying a new car because your history with said car is less and you are, apparently, more likely to have an accident because you are less familiar with the new car!
  17. Congrats matey. So are you still considering the ZZR?
  18. Now that might be part of the problem I was resting the ball of my right foot on the peg to avoid inadvertent illumination of the break light but my left foot was further forward with the instep sat on the peg. So when I change gear a lot of my foot is under the lever and not just my toes! Will give that a try before moving the lever. Thanks.
  19. Go back 10 seconds mate and you'll see that it is a Bus and Cycle lane. He is a nob though!
  20. Guys, this may seem like a really weird question but here goes. I was out on an errand yesterday evening and now that I am a lot more relaxed on the bike I rode with a bit more conviction and didn't think too much about the process of riding and just rode Now, on a couple of occasions I noticed that my left foot seemed to be getting hooked under the gear lever. Sort of 'stuck' between the footpeg and the gear change lever. Now I don't have big feet by any stretch of any imagination! Size 9 boots! Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just me pushing my foot too far forward? Or is there a way to adjust the pegs? I know the guy I bought the bike from was a tiny little guy about 5' 6" and very tiny feet. Could he have made an adjustment to suit his feet? I can't see anything obvious on the bike but hay, what do I know! I struggled changing the headlight bulb
  21. lol ... he had what he called 'teapot handles' on his jacket for me to hold ... I though I was going to pull them off. The acceleration was amazing and he said he was taking it really steady!
  22. lol ... I had to remove the whole front end fairing but got it sorted. While I had it all stript I decided to change the clutch cable. The original was hard work. 30 mins in town and my left hand was aching like hell Now I have a working headlight and a soft smooth clutch! And, surprised me, I walked into Fowlers and said I don't sduppose you have a clutch cable for an imported ZX600 and he said of course we do ... £17 please. I was sure I would have to order it in. My mate took me to Fowlers on the back of his Aprilia RSV1000 ... OMG, 0 - 60 before I could sh*t myself. I think I definitely prefer it on the front. DreamytimeEscorts: It doesn't have a switch on it ... well apart from the Hi / Lo switch! Thanks everyone for your help.
