  2. Yarp - I'd check the what the bike voltage is when it's revved up too. The USB thing might have an overload cut out.

  5. That's not a bad idea. We had been together for... oooh... must be 15 years. I'm more upset about losing that than [strikeout]some[/strikeout] [strikeout]most[/strikeout] all of my ex-girlfriends. Even the really dirty one who made superb sandwiches. In other news, I've been reviewing the data from the ride and decided that dropping the float heights 2-3mm should help out a bit.

    Dude, I picked up a similar Chinese-o-tactic jobbies and have hard wired it in. My top tip for the day is ignore the wire colours as some of mine weren't right. Instead use the position in the relative plugs given by the "manual". You won't use about half of the wires as they're for stuff your bike doesn't have.

  10. I just had a mystery leak that sounds very similar to yours. Cleaned everything and it still leaked. It turned out to be the float valve sealing washer which had decayed. You'll have to pop the floats out and undo a screw which holds the brass valve seat in. You'll then be able to check the washer.
  11. I took it for that spin today. It didn't go well. It struggled to rev on the road - my top speed was 34mph! Pulling over to a farm gate I tried giving it some revs - it blipped alright but trying to hold the revs up lead it to bog down at 7-8k followed by a chuff of black smoke from the exhaust. The lambda gauge showed a little rich but nothing stonking. I need to get this thing to a dyno and bugger about with the fueling. Should have gone FI! Lost a bloody Allen key too.
  12. Did you clean out the tap and jets while you were at it? It only takes a small bit of crud in a jet or internal passageway to knacker things.

  14. Take the carb out and clean it thoroughly then install a fuel filter.
  15. Couple of ideas: Have you checked the CPG wires individually i.e. between the ECU and the unit? Have you checked the signal from the CPG? If you've got a snazzy multi-meter with max/min you can connect it directly to the CPG and crank the engine - you should be able to find values in your service book. Otherwise stick the multi-meter on AC - if the value jumps about then it's likely working. If the CPG value is static then have a look at it's position - your manual should give you tolerance from the rotor. Failing that, I highly recommend Ignitech fully programmable ECU.
  16. You're right, it was definitely a low spot the other day though! Anyroad, it's all back together again and seems to be running alright. I put the replacement bearings back in the turbo and although it doesn't spool as quickly, at least it's not pissing oil any more. No more fuel leaks either and got 6psi boost giving it a bit of a rev on the stand. If the weather holds tomorrow I'll take it for a spin and see what's what.

  18. If you've got enough meat around the bolt you can drill and tap it with the next size up. Much quicker and easier than buggering about with a helicoil.
  19. I came so close to binning this project today. After the fuel pressure regulator issue and getting petrol in the engine I stripped out the carbs, checked them over, cleaned them and stuck them back in. I noticed that the oil level had risen so planned an oil change. When I went out this evening to drain the oil out I saw that the level was above the glass so more fuel had leaked in. I popped out the plugs and the plug on no.3 was a bit wet. I turned on the fuel pump and the cylinder slowly began filling with fuel (the rest were dry). This was the point of maximum grumpiness! I took the carbs out again and saw no.3 was weeping from the chamber so I took the bowls off them again and checked everything very carefully and found no faults. I scratched my brain for a bit and took the float valve out to find a crumbling o-ring. Luckily I found a bunch of what I hope are nitrile rings and stuck one in. All back together again I plumbed the carbs to the pump and... no leaks! I haven't put them back properly yet - that's a job for tomorrow... I hope that's sorted it because I need to get it finished!
  20. That's exactly why I got mine - couldn't stand the thought of throwing my zx6r up the track! Track bikes can be really cheap - the ZXR was £750ish. Then I bought new tyres, warmers, generator, chain&sprockets, levers, tasty shock, professional suspension set up, etc, etc... It's worth it though because I give it way more beans than I'd give the zx6r.
