  1. My nob of the day had another act of hilarity befall him... Driving into work, it's 6am so no one on the roads. Big, brand new BMW comes rocketing up behind me, I'm cruising a little above speed limit, no reason to go fast as the road surface is rubbish anyway. He flashes me... Now I know my cars speedo is spot on, and I know it's a 40 limit in which i'm doing 42-44, the roads are terrible in condition so I won't do much more on the bike. He overtakes me, and has to throw it back in due to an island in the road he didn't see as he was too busy sniffing my arse. I have to brake quite hard for him. Get into town and there's more traffic, 2 lanes, that split off into different lanes later. He sits behind a car, I chance it and sit behind 2 in the right lane as the car he's behind is a nissan micra with a little lady in the car. Lights change, we go, the car he's behind either doesn't set off or stalls! I sail on by. At this point i'm in the car like I then pull in down the road into the lane he wanted, now he races up again and he's flashing, beeping, the lot. I stare at him in the mirror, making deliberate eye contact. At the lights he sits a car length back from me... I have a "that's what I thought" moment in regards to how brave he feels in a powerful BMW vs a 1 litre supermini. Carry on, get to work, that's that! Attempt at being a nob: 8/10 Being out done and his reaction: 9/10 I love it when they get a backfire like that.

    Noted, I actually have the same "this isn't facebook" view... But with a heavy influx of recent picture posts, video posts etc all pushed on by a new "like" system, it has taken a slide that way I'm keen to hear this Bandits problem, and how it was fixed, I know an identical case on another forum, and even a carb strip hasn't solved it. Something with bandit carbs and running out of fuel can sometimes cause mayhem it seems. So to the OP, if he comes back, try cleaning the carbs, but check the fuel pump as well... I wonder if that blocks. I'm still thinking about it, as I try to get to the bottom of the other, if I find out the cause, I'll post here

No introduction But I'll admit the meme could have been more relevant Just burning some time waiting for the OP to reply so we can fix his bandit

    Gunk at the bottom of the tank has built up, bike has run out and pulled it through blocking the carbs. Seen this happen loads of times before! Fill the bike up, put some STP fuel cleaner in there, and try to start it. I imagine it would at least splutter... Other than that, obvious things... 1. Did you leave it in gear? 2. Is the kill switch on? 3. Is the sidestand switch not working? 4. Does the bike sound any better with a wider throttle opening with throttle. 5. Say hello in the newbies section

A labour supporter rung LBC saying "they only got rid of half the deficit, they lied about getting rid of it all" The radio presenters response: "Well didn't labour give us the entire deficit to begin with? I have to say I find it a bit simple to have a go at someone for only fixing half the problem, your party created" I burst out laughing! But good old Ozzie indeed... I plan on buying a house in the next couple of years
  8. Subaru behind me this morning who stayed 2 feet off my bumper for about 8 miles... As he indicated to turn off, he got right up close and I maintained course... Then approaching a big hole in the road, I swung last second and watched his car take the nasty dip into it. This is a hole in the road with a 6 inch tall flat lip at the end, you hit that at 30 like he did and it sounds like your suspension will collapse. Could see him effing and blinding in the mirror as he took the turn. Hope your suspensions fooked, butt munch!

  11. 24mm bolt!? Something sounds odd there. What year is it? I've only had my hands on an XR once, and it had a 16mm bolt on it... I just checked the microfiche which seems to back this up Confusing... The CG, CBF, DR125SM, my old Varadero 125, are all like half that number Work off the bolt size to be safe. If it's 16mm like a lot of places suggest: 60NM is more than enough! If it's 24mm then: 90-110nm is a good range Or if it's a 32mm bolt on a GSXR 600 front sprocket, you need more than 200nm, which is a pain when tightening it to that overpowers the rear brake and the gear resistance offered by the bike
  12. Hard to explain, in the video you posted at 11 mins onwards, if you pay attention he says the rod has splines that catch on the clutches splines in the engine. You should be able to turn this by hand, and furthermore, you should see the cover move off the bike slightly as you turn it back and forth. The cover should bob back and forth a bit as the clutch moves. See 12:49 in the video. I use this motion to pop a clutch cover off, and I also twist it the opposite way when putting it all back together, don't ask why, I'm just copying something I did as a nipper when I learned! It sounds like it's stuck in the "disengaged" mode, so it's stuck as if the lever is fully pulled, which is why I have both eyes on that rod from what you've said.
  13. I don't, but it shares axles with a few bikes I do know. Torque setting for the axle nut is 55nm, I just select 60nm though as a tiny bit extra never goes amiss on those.
  14. Just seen you have a Kawasaki ER6F in your bike description. I had one, I used 10W40 Motul 5100. It's a quality oil, and seems to do the trick. Ran an ER6F myself on that stuff, never missed a beat on it. I'd say it was a good oil for the bike although the ER does get hot easily.
  15. Always follow what the manual says Fully synth - It is more slippy and thinner than regular oil, this does mean it gets around better but it is more expensive and basically does the same job. It is however designed and made for purpose. Part synth - It already has some fully synthetic stuff in there, it is actually a type of mineral oil with fully synthetic additives thrown in to the mix. It does its job by a matter of nature, with some engineering thrown in. What this means for you? Most engines that are worn in, will see no difference using part synth, if you keep the changes regular and to the book at the least. If you have a high performance engine, with fine tolerances, then the thinner, and more slippery oil is the best way to go. I used part synth in a GSXR with no ill effects over 20k miles. Same for my Hondas and so on... I didn't do enough high RPM riding back then, I used the bike for commuting and a bit of fun. Hope this helps, I work in the oil industry so it's quite prudent I know myth from fact

Just to elaborate: When I took the clutch cover off my CBR600, I got all the bolts for the clutch over off, I manipulated the clutch cover by turning the shaft anti-clockwise, it helped prize the cover free as I pulled it away. But one thing I had to do when re-installing you had to engage the clutch lever, and then turn it clockwise for it to engage correctly. This left the shaft engaged, which it should be when the lever is out. Turning it would then cause the clutch to disengage. It could be something as simple as that, just sounds odd, it all fits together and seems fine... But could easily be explained if you've just been popping the lever back in. As the resistance you will feel will be against the spring.
  17. Everything sounds right... Apart from the operation shaft going into the clutch area... You can turn it against the spring with grips, pull it with a cable, but is it connected properly inside?

    Osram nightbreaker gives great depth of light Philips xtreme vision gives just a little less, but a broader beam I've used both so pick which is best for your needs, I actually preferred the philips!

  25. I was ferret crazy in my teen years! Some mates kept them and they were a great laugh Was always warned they have a mean bite however. Always wondered if that was true, as presumably an animal that is accustomed to you will be fine. Plan is to have a house inside a year or two... Me and moo like smaller animals like rabbits. But I can see myself one day owning ferrets as cool house pets.
