  1. I think people have forgotten or never really knew how much violence was involved with the strike. I lived in and was brought up in a non mining town (last pits had shut in the 70's) but with relations in Castleford who worked in the mines. Most of our school had relatives who worked in the pits. We never played bulldogs charge. We enacted pickets versus police. Perfectly normal. Everywhere was awash with the support the NUM stickers and sack the tories etc. It was a police state in and around west/South Yorkshire and areas further north. This of course never got the publicity. It suited thatcher that the tory rags only ever portrayed the strike as the miners being a baying mob. Wheres the Orgreave enquiry???
  2. No it just cemented generational hatred of the police/army in many communities.
  3. I remember watching it live on sky news thinking they're going to lose patience in a minute. If it had been football or the left, the sticks would have been out a lot lot earlier.
  4. And thats why this country is in the shit. There is no serious opposition. (And I'm a sodding paid up member)
  5. Fox hunters. Country side alliance. How i laughed as the MET got stuck in. Serious note though. It's good quite sensible debate can occur on here without resorting to uncalled for personal digs.
  6. I agree. But some of them are lunatics. And I for one refuse to be associated with the lunatic element. And that is the age old problem with the left. We don't even agree with one another.
  7. I feel i need to explain. Whilst I am anti fascist (vehemently). I do not associate myself with the anarchist element within antifa. The quote is truelly a classic. Just ordered the t shirt: More blacks More dogs More Irish
  8. Not loony. Definitely anti facist
  9. Whilst I agree yesterdays events were a tad uncalled for. I feel we are in danger of becoming a country where one cannot question the regime. I have in the past been "kettled" by the police. And believe me they need no more powers than they already have. And no, I'm not a loony antifa. Once was on a very peaceful march against the austerity cuts and the other times while attending football. Let's be under no illusions. The police. Especially certain forces are renowned for getting stuck in. By the time peaceful protest can resume, the bill will be past and thats another nail in the coffin of democracy.

  20. Yep. Warm here. Daft lad has gone to college with a short sleeved Celtic shirt on...... I feel it may be an act of provocation in his politics class. Plus it's was paddy's day yesterday and he was having lessons from home. We were all young once. But I really don't know where he gets his argumentative streak from....
