  1. We bought we use does it work, sort of.... Plus side... No issues with volumes (speaker/ mic position is important as with any system) and call quality is good. When its working the dual audio streaming works well (something we wanted was music and coms not music or coms and voice control over phone). When you can get the functions working it does what it says and can really add to the pleasure of the ride... As far as I can understand its about as good as there is out there... Even if its not without its faults... Now the other view point.... I contact them regarding issues we have been having, they are not deal breakers but they are frustrating.... It seems we are not the only one and they are trying to resolve them, if you own a set and are having bugs please also report it might help! Some pictures missing for ease of posting... Other users tips and advice appreciated (if it helps on Q3 or other models it might help on Pack Talk)... My comments black there's red... -=-=-=-=- So in summary the issues: 1) Clunky to use I guess this is problem of 3 buttons and to many functions? - You can use the Cardo SmartSet application on your phone which can be used to control the PACKTALK device which is easier for some customers. - - We both have the app and it is off use, for setting up although it cannot be used with gloves and in this country illegal to use on the road as rider. - - - The PACKTALK is our top of the line product with the most features and capability. Unfortunately, there are only so many buttons that can be put on the device, so it definitely can take some time to learn the functions of each button and feature. 2) FM Radio Range poor (Is FM aerial speaker wires)? - Your right speaker wire contains the FM antenna if you are using the factory provided speakers. To achieve the best FM reception, make sure the wire is routed directly over your head within the lining of the helmet as opposed to being around the back portion of the helmet. Also, please route the wire in an “S” shape if any excess wire exists after routing the speaker wire properly. -- Thanks for the confirmation on that and the tip about S shape. 3) What does the RDS Actually do? - RDS re-tunes the FM radio station that you are listening to a strong frequency for that channel. This only applies if the station you are listening to broadcasts the same channel on different frequencies in different areas. Once you are out of range of one station, RDS will automatically switch to the stronger frequency for that station. RDS does not function if station you are listening to only broadcasts on one frequency. -- We thought that is what is meant to do so far we have not noticed this happening, a friend with the system also has the same feeling. 4) Is Music Sharing and Dual audio streaming Intercom possible? - The PACKTALK system has a music sharing feature, which allows you to share Bluetooth A2DP music between a driver and a passenger. It also has a Parallel Audio streaming feature, which allows you to listen to music simultaneously during an intercom conversation. These two features do not function simultaneously – you can’t share music and utilize the parallel streaming feature. Music sharing can only be used in Bluetooth intercom mode and must be initiated by the primary headset that is connected with the audio source. Parallel streaming of music will only function properly in DMC intercom mode. Each rider can play their own music during a DMC intercom conversation. Music sharing is not possible in DMC mode. -- This seems to be part of the frustration with the system many of the features available are only available in limited modes or with restrictions on their use. Learning what you can do when and how to push the right button at the right time becomes a challenge. 5) What is the issue with listening to music from our individual phones and dual Audio Streaming? - Parallel Audio streaming is only possible in DMC intercom mode at this time. It will not work in Bluetooth intercom mode at this time. A forthcoming PACKTALK software update will also offer this option when using the PACKTALK in Bluetooth intercom mode. -- Looking forward to that update hopefully with some stabilization and bug fix's. Particularly as I am struggling to repair us in a DMC group after doing a factory reset to both units. My helmet has a group with a name and is Adding members (Green, red flash) passenger set is trying to join a group (quick green flash) They time out without joining a group :/ Its not the first time I have had this issue on Sunday 3 of us gave up after 15-20 minutes of trying, we just went for a ride using 8+1 calling each other individually but never achieving a pack. UPDATE: Just achieved a pairing buy pushing button 5s etc, even then passenger set sees a group on her phone and I don't have one on mine? Well I do but it has no members?? ---There are different bugs that are currently being resolved with the app. The group name may not transfer over from one app to another when a DMC pack is created. If you wish to add a member to a DMC pack that was already created, you will need to do so using the headset of the original PACK creator. If you are having issues creating a PACK or joining a PACK after repeated attempts, you may need to reset the device to clear out the previous pairings before creating a new pairing. 6) Wind Noise tips please. - If you are using the adjustable hybrid-boom microphone, make sure that the microphone is positioned directly in front of your mouth and as close to your mouth as possible – not off to the side, above, or below your mouth. The sponge should be touching your lips. Also, make sure you are speaking into the side with the yellow arrow-head indicator showing. This arrow head points towards the proper side of the microphone, as shown below. I’d also recommend to switch to the larger round microphone sponge in your packaging if you have not done so already. If using the corded microphone, this also needs to be mounted directly in front of your mouth. If there is any space between your mouth and the corded microphone, you may need to pad out the area so it is closer to your mouth, or switch to the hybrid-boom microphone. We have altered our microphone positions as best as possible, in my helmet there is very restricted space for boom, the corded microphone is placed to one side. If not people could not understand me (possibly due to vent locations, Shark vision R Carbon helmet). 7) Do you have a better simplified guide? - You can view our mini guide for the scala rider PACKTALK, which is an interactive guide that provides details on almost every function of the device. This can be found here: http://cardosystems.com/external/miniguides/Miniguide_En/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. -- Now that is a useful guide.

  3. I have been known to give a little toot on the horn to people on the phone as I pass... Particularly if its affecting there driving (normally only time I notice) To let them know I am there of course, seems like its in the rules. "Rule 112 The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn, while stationary on the road, when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am except when another road user poses a danger." Lane hoggers I often creep up on the inside lane then gradually drive round using all 3 lanes, a fair quantity do follow into the inside lane... A fair number are also on the phone....
  4. I bought the full coaching degreaser kit followed the instructions and POURed my Trophy tank no issues. Did as it said on the can only trouble I got was on to my favourite T shirt... Makes me wonder in original coating in your tank is disagreeing with the new coating....
  5. That's a great idea - you should go on Dragons Den I might fit that to my garage door it has no power but, if I can find a door bell with sufficient range...
  6. I live in one of 2 merged "towns" one is famous for being up itself the other is the "poor" part. Its funny here in the poor part there is 95% of the time a brilliant gentlemen system. Stopping flashing cars to pass etc in the other half of town its real cut throat and you NEVER indicate or its a sign of weakness.. We have a bend similar to that you describe with cars parked randomly round it it can be bugger and its the 1 place the gentlemen system brakes down. If I have time really enjoy it when I have to reverse the 100m round the bend to save some one reversing 10m against there right of way. Do you know how hard you can make it look to reverse a Landrover? You cannot see behind you you have to open the door to have a look. You can really make it look so very difficult. It can take considerable amount of time, especially if a car comes up behind you. There is one particular mercedes I made a real hash of it for... I met them a week or so later going the other way they did not look happy, I only had to go back the 15m round a park car strangely I could suddenly reverse that in seconds. One car even decided I would have to reverse the bike, I popped side stand down and prepared to dismount. They very quickly changed there mind, I don't know what they where thinking I was going to do.... A shame I needed to practice my manual handling and it was going to be a good 50m back to first passing place
  7. Coolfire IV Plus I make my own juice often with very little flavour down to 3 nicotine now. Have tried stopping but misses says I get short tempered and everything is every one else's fault!! I just crack the window and let it all out the window and let it out. Worst smoke accumulation I had was collecting daughter from school it was raining and I only had little gap in Window. After about 30 minutes the smog had built up, I did not notice until I had collected my daughter opened the car door and this smog was just rolling out On my own it is very satisfying watching clouds of vae float around the room, reminds me of my granddads pipe.
  8. I am glad I am not the only one who got told the same.. I still do the same most of the time, it depends on traffic conditions..
  9. Don't it seems about 10 years ago when I started on FB I suddenly acquired allot of friends from my secondary school. I have moved out the area and had not kept in touch, it seems before we hit 35 we had lost nearly 1/5 of our year... Not certain that's normal...
  10. OK Guys just thought I would update this, did not get to J&S Birmingham traffic at bottom of M42 was Chocker looped south of birmingham and hit A/ B roads rest of way (will remember that route for the bike ). Continued gear shopping down here, ok my lady (who gear is for) is larger lady clothing size 18/20 (mens XL) she is now becoming totally demoralised with the whole thing. First thing she has learned is her dress size has gone up 6-8 sizes, and clothes are cut for some strange people. In men's sizes she is anywhere between 2xl and 5XL. I am not naming and shaming shops but I can say we have visited most of the large ones and some of the smaller ones down here. Some of the quotes we have had... This is not restricted to one shop. Whilst wearing textiles on a wet day "Oh yes you would be better of in jeans they are much more forgiving". Large shop with lots of choice of clothing "That jacket over there third from end they are the ones that will fit". "We have nothing of your size we will have to order in". Oh and asking for help but just being left waiting, how can you buy boots if they will not bring you the size to try on? OK we are not looking at top end gear just yet but something she can learn what she likes and does not like, its still going to be a few £100. A couple of these shops has seen a few £100 of my money for my gear but still do not seem to be interested... Plus being Female if its quality she likes it she will buy it...
  11. Since we are covering ignorant Twats in cars. Thank heavens I guessed what was coming and had eased of a touch in landrover, seeing an on coming pushbike and car on brow of previous hill... Get to top of middle hill twat in car is coming head on on wrong side of road over taking pushbike. Anchors on hard in landy, hand on horn daughter flung hard on seat belt. Any loose stuff sliding forward and twat in car coming the other way sticks finger up and gives me w**ker signals. Pushbike rides on oblivious to it all, a typical day on the roads now days...

    What to take

My suggestion and our plan for first calling trip is to pick some where a couple of hours up the road. Load your bike up and try a night then see what you really need and can ride with.... Essentials for us: Tent, Blow up beds (heavy) Coffee making gear Sleeping bags Phones After that depends what we are comfy with...
  13. Thats the one I am eyeing up looks big.... Its on route but Birmingham traffic :/
  14. Looking for gear shopping out of my area for various reasons. Route M40 M42 M6 M54 A41 (I am in a car) Any suggestions for gear shopping enroute, I am aware of Deamon tweeks in North Wales Any others you would recommend looking for affordable: Intercom. Female, Boots, Jacket, Jeans amongst others.
  15. Just thought I would update this as I have still not resolved... I have been looking at com's systems between me and Misses my Lidl set is still working but if you want to talk you cannot hear the SatNav. This is good reference if 2 years old: http://moto-intercom.co.uk/news/blog/6-intercom-systems-for-motorcycles-with-conference" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Cardo: http://www.cardosystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/comparison-chart-2015-International.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Sena: Sadly I cannot find such a handy little table Seems the top end Sena and Cardo systems give music & satnav overlayed with intercom... Whilst looking the following set came to my attention (probably on here), looks a good set but misses a few features for Pillion but thought others might be interested £85... http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/cardo-scala-rider-qz-motorcycle-bluetooth-hands-free-kit-p45476.htm#description" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Or top end this one is cheap if you have spare cash.... http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/accessories-c11/communication-systems-c207/cardo-scala-rider-packtalk-system-p14683" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/accessories-c11/communication-systems-c207/cardo-scala-rider-packtalk-duo-system-p14685/s42809?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=cardo-scala-rider-packtalk-duo-system-btsrptd&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=CjwKEAjw5vu8BRC8rIGNrqbPuSESJADG8RV0XYc_rt2vR_CoEUW-6nrDv0pqiEsdQ7belwNLxvXw9RoCzFHw_wcB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Just ideas
  16. I am still looking for intercom between me and Pillion and phone. Its tough choice for twin set as the good ones are only a little bit more when you start adding the features up... Presently still using £20 lidl set it works but bot without issues satnav will not talk to you when using as intercom is a biggy... This might help when it comes to phone Nav apps http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=59748" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  17. Just to play devils advocate, if your serious about a commuter suit... I would seriously consider one of these or similar... http://www.fc-moto.de/Alpinestars-360-R-Drystar-Suit?gclid=CjwKEAjwqpK8BRD7ua-U0orrgkESJADlN3YBa0ZDj-jKISEG35ilIT8FkgDSvC6ONVuSXaNBHf2mRBoCZtPw_wcB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Although not the prettiest thing they are useful. I have a Spada all in one that is great when I am going on courses etc I can change out of biker gear in 2 minutes. Iused to do it every day at the station really handy...
  18. Agree and having the flexibility to get your leg over... Then there is gravely car parks/ junctions and problems trying to paddle it round when parking, riding is the easy bit. Some people manage better than others, allot depends on various other factors. I know when my friend attempted the MOD2 on the larger bike the examiners where not at all happy about her doing it on a bike that was "to big for her". This is after several thousand miles on her 125...
  19. Others will explain test requirements better than me..... A friend feels your pain she recently had this nightmare with 28" inside leg she really struggled to find a school with bike low enough for her for MOD 1 & 2. There was one that was lowered that she did MOD1 on and she attempted MOD2 on but really was to tall. In the end she bought a bike to do her test on, caused some problems for insurance but nothing insurmountable. If your down this way or want to chat to her I am sure she will do all she can to help. In the end she ended up with a Kwaker Kawasaki 650 Vulcan I think (she swears its the lowest big bike on the market), even on that she has removed the pillion seat to help her get her leg over...

  21. Have been looking into this... Portsmouth - France Ferries around £230 Ireland Around £ 200 IOM Around £180 Euro Tunnel £80 But we have to get to Folkestone in 1 hour hops form here that's not a nice journey M3/M25 or coast road through Brighton. And Shock horror IOW £38.50! That's cheaper than a foot passenger rate for open return on some routes... Always nice to take inspiration from others as we always seem to choose the same places LOL...
  22. Scotland & Back from here in 4 days is a hike even for hardened biker... We have been there before in the past I have spent much time up there and would always go back... My good lady though thats a long time on a bike after only being Pillion a handful of times...
  23. Not a question I ever imagined asking but I would like suggestions for a few days away with my good lady on the bike (for her birthday weekend no less)... We can be based Saturday (2nd July) morning for the start in: Hampshire, Oxfordshire or the Wirral... Restrictions we want to do 1 hour stops shes not that bike aclimatised yet, although she has done a 150 mile day. Then her first suggestion was Ireland! My suggestion was the IOM. I was going to start this just asking about biker friendly accommodation on the IOM, then I figured we do tend to follow the weather. So will not book until next week. So looking for your favourite haunts and places to stay, should not be all bikey although it will be our prime mode of transport. All suggestions appreciated.
  24. And this is what I do for a living (motorcycle crash investigation) and I am not even prepared to make comment. Insufficient information and facts You guys aint as much fun as another forum I am a member of, there ColReg threads can go for weeks assumptions made hypotheses drawn ... Whats even better is you can wait for it to start calming down, post one post and of it all goes again The only thing that is reliable is it will be the OP's fault
  25. Now I maybe wrong here, but it did get me to check my Highway code. If its like the orange blob green star drawing... On roundabout you give priority to traffic on your right. As long as you entered roundabout and he was not on it he should of given way to you, he made the mistake by trying to cut ahead and not giving you room. I cannot see where it says you not need a clear exit. I see it as such enough space (a gap) to safely join flow of traffic on roundabout, once your on it if traffic slows or your exit becomes blocked you slow/ stop and are stuck... If you see your exit is blocked it is good practice to wait until its clear if possible. The highway code says In all cases watch out for and give plenty of room to traffic crossing in front of you on the roundabout. Which you should (of) but at the end of the day he misjudged it I agree 50/50 would seem reasonable.
