  1. At a previous breeding project i worked at we reared chickens, rats and quail to kill fresh to feed to the falcons. We killed several hundred chickens rats and quail a day (the egg production hatcheries sold us the male chickens that hatched as they were useless in the industry, we reared tens of thousands at all times) Now several hundred animals needed gutting, which in itself is quite a smelly job, but you grow used to it. My boss was a very eccentric and cheap ass man who had never heard of health and safety in any form. His solution to getting rid of masses of biological waste was definitely not "by the book". He decided to hire a skip and leave it next to the woodlands. Then using one of the large blue barrels we used to get tripe from the slaughterhouse (to feed all the dogs) we would skin and gut animals into the barrel, after a few inches of offal, he would put a layer of sawdust to stop the odour, which in mid summer with all the flies developed rapidly. and so he would layer up the barrel, guts, sawdust, guts, sawdust until the barrel was full. At which point it was my job to roll the barrel without tipping it, out and onto the tractor bucket, balance it and drive it down to the skip, at which point i had to flip the barrel upside down to empty the contents and shake it so it poured out into the skip. Days worth of rotting maggot infested offal was enough to make you vomit, which i did on several occasions! Now i would rather test a toxic gas than do that job again! Thats definitely the worst job ive ever had in my career
  2. i have a son, hes 5 in a couple of weeks. The only problem is hes a bit funny. He's autistic (not the funny part lol) and hes obsessed with rally cars. He also loves monster trucks, massively loud crashing smashing vehicles.......yet........hes scared of certain noises including the hoover and my motorbike, i tried to sit him on my bike a few weeks ago and he was NOT happy. He refused to come near me until i took my leathers off. But if hes into rally cars now, hopefully as he develops further i can gently nudge him towards bikes. Im going to let him use his tools on the bike to "fix it" and keep encouraging him. My sister, auntie and brother are all bikers and now my brothers bairn is 13 and shes getting interested in bikes so my brothers asked if ill take her out and about on the bike (hes not in the country)
  3. Happy birthday TMBF, long may you continue!
  4. ive heard there is effectively no difference, so long as its sheer strength and viscosity are the same it shouldnt matter what you use, But im a weak consumer, i will buy bike oil like a good boy
  5. i was given some hand-me-down panniers, theyre fabric but easy to install and take off, great for camping trips as they extend to become a lot bigger, only downfall is not secure to be left with goods in them. Cant tell you what brand they are ill have to have a look, but i love them, 2 minutes to attach them and they have handles on so you can detach them and walk about with them.
  6. I just bought a ram mount with adapter to fit my satnav, the sat nav was just a cheap one. i am putting it on my thundercat too. If you have a 1" ball (ram mount) then just search yoke ram mounts on ebay, theres a couple of options, one you screw over the yoke stem and the other you insert into the yoke stem and screw in tight
  7. When i had trouble doing the u-turn i asked the instructor to let me just ride around the yard a bit, going as slow as possible, after ten minutes i had got the hang of slow control and u-turns were easy after that. Once you get the knack, its much easier than you think. Remember, if you need to practice it more, tell your instructor, they are there to help! Good luck with the direct access, its well worth it.
  8. nows the time for me to sound daft, whats the difference between a straight through and a road legal can? You can see the exhaust in this other thread: https://themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=92&t=61310 im only thinking of maybe taking a third of the length off, make it look a bit better
  9. Its a road legal as far as im aware, i like sleepy's logic.... i think ill take some time off work just to play with it, i have money in case i need to retune it so whats the worst that could happen
  10. Is it a sign of my age that i got excited over getting new socks I also got a beard grooming set which is long overdue i wont look so much like a hobo now
  11. Hey everyone, i have a yamaha thundercat yzf600r (carb'd bike) It has a micron exhaust on but its ferkin mahoosive. I am tempted on shortening it, i know how to shorten it and im pretty sure i can do a good job of it. However, tinternet cant seem to decide whether its ok to do or not. Some places say it will damage the engine, some say it is perfectly fine to do, and some say the carbs will need to be completely re-jetted. So, i would rather trust the advice from you lovely folks. The only reason i want to chop it is for aesthetics and sound, is it worth doing?
  12. Xbox: iFalconer v Im normally on call of duty, i am tempted to try battlefield though
  13. Hey everyone, i was out crimbo shopping the other day and popped into a barnados charity shop where i found a brand spanking new akito leather motorbike jacket, it fits perfectly and looks smart as hell. The price.... £15! God i love charity shops. Anyone else found bike gear in a charity shop? Whats the best bargain you had?
  14. I've chucked a few quid into the pot, hope it helps.
  15. I saw this http://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/Riding-Accessories/bikertidy.html And thought I might buy it, looks simple and hopefully sturdy enough, would fit nicely in my hallway, and for only £30, it doesn't look too bad.
  16. Oh how I love online shopping, hadn't even started until today, took me an hour on laptop and I'm done, now to wait for everything to arrive and wrap them, job done!
  17. Hey people, I'm looking for a decent hanger for my helmet and leathers, I get moaned at all the time for leaving them wherever they land, so I decided to look for a decent hanger for my gear, seen a couple online but wondering if anyone has any suggestions? So what do you use for hanging your gear?
  18. Heres a bunch of some of my animals at home, theres more, 8 ferrets, 2 cats, 4 dogs, 2 parrots, 2 birds of prey
  19. I had one of these bikes for several years, absolutely loved it and given the opportunity i would probably buy another. 'twas good fun on all roads and is capable of keeping up with most traffic, mine served me well and i worked it hard, only ever broke down once and it was my own fault. cant recommend them enough.
  20. I always look ahead, if you do that when they dazzle you, you should know what the roads going to do before you get there, that plus on a straight you can just aim to the left of the dazzling lights and you should be OK, that's what I've always done anyway
  21. Hopefully Santa will leave me some money, that and some new stainless steel downpipes for the bike. And maybe another bike while he at it
