  1. Ah crap...I've got a couple of old fashioned cylinders I was thinking about making into a log burner. So the plan to rinse them before attacking with an angle grinder is obviously not a good one.
  2. Didn't gave chance. But by an amazing coincidence our MP is coming to the village on Saturday to attend a meeting on road safety. Since they've hired our hall I know it's only just been planned.
  3. No problem with a yellow headlight. It can help make traffic notice you more as it stands out. I doubt it would an insurance issue as it's a standard bulb just a different colour that is legal. Only downside is that you might find it less bright than some white bulbs and prone to fail earlier as unless it's a bike specific bulb the extra vibration kills standard bulbs quicker. Otherwise I'd leave the bike as standard or your insurance will be silly.
  4. I reported it for that very reason. It's been an ongoing battle for years locally. The snag is it's a route used by the emergency services so the council are reluctant to do anything to slow traffic flow.
  5. I always take a photo of any ticket affixed to the bike. It's annoying how many places that used to have free parking for bikes are now charging or withdrawing bike parking g altogether.
  6. I'm fine. Just annoyed because I've lived here nearly 6 years and have repeatedly told the council this section of road is dangerous. It's at the bottom of a hill so cars usually ignore the 30mph speed limit and go through at 40 to 50mph. It's easy to do going down the steep hill. Then at the bottom there's a short section with no pavement right outside a school. There's been one fatality so far but that isn't enough for them to do anything about it.
  7. Nope - just kept on going.
  8. The parent at our local school whose car has just hit me as I was walking back from a meeting. There's no pavement outside the school so pedestrians have to walk in the road. It didn't stop this guy steaming through and clouting me with his door mirror.

But I was looking at it on my phone before I'd woken up and put my glasses on. Still a damn good cafe though.
  10. I see that in a national poll of motorbike cafes Old Stores came out top. Well deserved.
  11. We have a dishwasher but rarely use it. It's simpler and quicker to do them by hand. The only time it gets used is at Christmas. Or if I have a cylinder head to spruce up.
  12. I get an annual vaccination against paranoia. It seems to work very well. So long as I keep the tin foil lining in my helmet I'm immune to their brain control.
  13. Ah....that explains something about my CBF. Turns out Honda built them in Italy. So the way it gets ridden is genetic.
  14. My usual diet is 70's rock through to 80's metal. For some strange reason over the years I've always had raging tinnitus. At night it's horrendous and I've never slept more than a couple of hours. Recently I bought a Snoozeband, basically a soft headband with quite decent quality speakers that a super thin. So at night I've been using Amazon music and finding mellow classical music, piano, cello just nothing with any higher pitched strings. I set it for an hour and go out like a light and don't wake up other than needing a pee about 3.00am...then flat out until the alarm goes off. I tried a night without it and was immediately back to hearing the clock chime every hour. I'm not into classical music really but it gets me to sleep brilliantly.
  15. 1,500mph winds I can cope with - ours was over 15,000mph. I cracked out my (non-heated) winter gloves today and 40 miles later my fingers were beginning to feel a we bit chilly. It can't be time for heated gloves already!
  16. I was thinking of heading out on the bike and just checked the weather forecast
  17. Bike batteries aren't huge so even a tiny drain flattens them quite quickly. My CBF has an alarm on it that drains the battery so I keep it on a maintenance charger. That also seems to keep the battery lasting longer as my batteries outlast my mates' batteries by years. As said above, if you've got a multimeter check for current flow and disconnect circuits until you identify the cause.
  18. Because Napolean didn't die in battle.
  19. Today I was mugged and relieved of £84. By DVLA
  20. Solid deck, fibreglass hull, lead keel.
  21. I have a new toy - and yes, it is as big as it looks. A J class. Lovely boats.
  22. Derry boots. I used to have a pair when I was belting around Liverpool on my trusty CG125 delivering paperwork. In the winter the roads were awash with diesel so handling was always lively in the wet.
  23. That's exactly my experience. The same applies to many walks of life.
  24. Nasty. That's going be sore in the morning.
  25. I have spent a lot of time and effort prepping a model yacht for painting. I have previously used an airbrush on model aircraft with good results but not done a boat hull before. I've used Rustoleum in a spray can to repair sailing dinghy foils and paint a model motor boat for my father-in-law. Those turned out fine. I've heard horror stories of Rustoleum reacting when a different colour is applied so I left it over a week between coats. The plan is a white hull, deck and cabin with red sides. All the white parts were painted and left for 10 days. Then just a light coat of red down the sides. Sure enough, the moment the red hit the hull sides the whole damn thing erupted in crinkles. So now I've got to rub the whole thing down and start again. I am not a happy bunny.
