  1. Usually that kind of signal would come on with either an error code or another signal. its effectively saying.. there is a problem and the fix is in the owners manual. so, you are doing something wrong and RTFM to fix it. or there is a fault.. and here is the error code. look it up in the manual. It shouldnt come on in isolation as what is the point of RTFM if it doesn't tell you what part of the FM to read.
  2. If I were in your position and put a high value on my bike. (which I do) I would be using the Q park at the Mailbox. They dont give a price for motorcycles... but In central london they park free. so, who knows.. a car parked for 24hrs costs £21. so thats the most it could possibly cost. But dont be surprised if there is no payment at all. These are car parks you cant just walk into. Very secure. I enjoy a lot of free parking.. but there are times when Im more than happy to pay. going to central Brum. or Manchester. You can bet i would pay for a little extra peace of mind.
  3. A big part of security isn't just securing the bike. How i like to put it is: If the thieves don't know where the bike is.. or that you have one. How can they target it? Simpe answer: They cannot. So.. have your eyes on the mirrors on the final approach to your home. if you suspect you are being followed then go round the block to make sure... and only arrive at your door when you are sure you are not. If the bike is normally kept out of sight.. never leave it in full view. get it out of sight as quickly as possible. never be lazy.. always put the bike out of sight. Don't leave it parked up outside on the road. and so on. I really like the NC and this makes you the 3rd DCT owner on the forum.
  4. The old fashioned way.. but also the way recommended by DID amongst others. Paraffin to clean and then Gear oil to lube. Cleaning and lubing takes about 15 minutes. and I do that about every 600 miles. Lubing takes less than 3 minutes and I do that every 200, after a ride. warm chain, so the oil penetrates. I tried chain lube.. silkolene. and I kept seeing rust forming. not good. this way.. no rust at all. (and no fling)
  5. No. Belts need nothing aside from an occasional visual check. Absolutely, but you can shred em & then spend ages investigating the clutch, d'oh I heard about one snapping. Is that the same as shredding? The bike immediately red-lined and rolled to a stop. The belt had snapped and rolled off the rear sprocket onto the floor. Owners fault. He had neglected that crucial.. Occasional... Visual check.
  6. No. Belts need nothing aside from an occasional visual check.
  7. Is that a northern thing? Cos in Sussex my 2 friends and I all passed within the last year or two and the dealers were thrusting keys into our hands for a test ride before we even sent our licences off to be upgraded - just a pass cert for proof. No, it seems to be an insurance thing. And something Ive seen mentioned over and over again on this forum and elsewhere. people who have newly passed being refused a test ride because they have zero NCB. Now, it could also be an age thing.. that some insurers have a minimum cut-off point. or a value thing. or a power thing. or a "well you look far too dodgy" thing. It could be that some dealerships have a different arrangement. There could also be a difference between main dealers and independents. individual policy on test rides. after all someone has to pay for the bikes and their insurance. All sorts of reasons for refusal. or if not refusal.. a massive 'deposit'. I have heard of people having to put their credit card on the scanner so £1000 is held in limbo until the bike returns unharmed. If you dont have £1000 in available credit on a card.. thats as good as a refusal. the result is the same. Maybe a sense of embarrassment meant the story was changed a little. (It happens) I have never had a proper road test.. every bike I have bought was as a result of having an example of it for a day as a 'courtesy bike'. And that is why... I stayed with just two makers for so long. Triumph from 1982-1997 and BMW 1997-2018.
  8. you will struggle to find any dealer prepared to let you test ride a bike with a brand new full license as their insurance will not allow it. You may be lucky, but somehow I doubt it. Your best bet is to avoid Enfields at this point. go for either a Japanese, British or German bike. as your very first and maybe look to change it in a year or twos time. once you have some NCB and have had a full license for a full year.. then they will take a very different attitude to letting you test. spend some time visiting dealerships and sit on as many different bikes that appeal to you as possible. bikes that you can flat foot are the best bet for a brand new rider. (in my opinion) if you want a bike with classic looks.. then look closely at Triumph.
  9. Yes.. it should NOT have the original tyres on it. Also.. as that price is rather high and I imagine based solely on its condition. I would expect it to have had at least some if not all 'annual' services done. with the book stamped accordingly. A bike that does very low miles should be serviced every year.. the oil and filters replaced every 12 months. For all i know it might have only had its engine oil and filter changed twice. once at its first service and again when it was serviced by Highbarn for sale. Annual services are important for a bike that has hardly been used. similarly, it should not have its original battery and i would also be a little more confident if it had had the brakes serviced during this period. Unless its been kept in a vacuum bag then i would worry somewhat about cables and so on too. I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out to have been stored, covered in a garage for years. It looks lovely.. but, realistically.. you can buy a brand new.. or almost new for not a lot more. if you were to buy it and then pass your test a year or so down the line, its value will drop significantly. because regardless of its condition it will still, by then, be a 10 year old. bear in mind.. you can buy a brand new CB125R for £81 per month on PCP. with a full warranty and all back-up. so zero worries.
  10. That is absolutely normal.. lets face it more than 3 months at a stretch is rather longer than a 'holiday' which is what this cover is for. if you are going to be out of the Uk in euroland for longer than 3 months then you will be looking at a fairly 'specialised' policy because you are not on holiday.. you have relocated albeit temporarily. Which could mean you have to insure it locally. (seems likely to me) one of my biggest regrets at leaving CN when i bought the Africa Twin was losing their euro cover. again its for 90 days but they match the level of insurance you have in the UK. TPF&T or Fully comprehensive. plus they give you Roadside assistance and recovery, vehicle repatriation, storage, onward travel and accommodation, replacement rider, message service and parts delivery. That beats just about everyone else. FWIW.. the one time i had to use their services when in Austria, at no point did they ask me when I had travelled. of course.. there is nothing to stop you going to euroland multiple times and so the total is over 90 days. how would they know?
  11. Are you happy with it? Was it worth the price you paid over and above the price of a standard GSA?
  12. Maybe talk to Nottingham Roadcraft, over on Beechdale road about CBT amd taking things further. greetings from Mapperley.
  13. You wont if you use that postcode.. as its a fair distance away. a much better one is to head for "Barnabys fish Restaurant" which is almost directly opposite. corner of sheep street and Waterside. post code CV37 6EF Bancroft gardens is on "Waterside" which is a one way and best approached from Sheep Street. or by turning into it off Bridge street. https://goo.gl/maps/dPBotnCRVtnWMtFH6
  14. Its this one. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/206611
  15. Bancroft gardens. next to the RSC theatre.
  16. They have not replaced the signs.. they have just stuck on an outline.. for want of a better word, of a Motorbike next to the outline of a Bus, Taxi (black cab) and Bicycle. The 3 vehicles that can hitherto use bus lanes in Nottingham. very obvious that these are brand new as they are much cleaner than the older outline. something like.. from this: To this:
  17. Espana verde. Picos de europas and the lower Pyrenees. All absolutely perfect for an Africa Twin rider. Still very warm but with a higher chance of cool breezes off the Atlantic.
  18. Baby wipes and a microfibre cloth.
  19. Two factors that are at the root of many of the problems with politics in this country. Easily fixed. A candidate to be MP should have his primary address within the constituency and have lived there for at least 5 years. There should be term limits. All MPs should only be allowed to stand twice. So third time round someone new comes in. This would stop "high fliers" being parachuted in to safe seats.. I'm looking at you Chris Leslie. And it would get rid of the "job for life - so who cares" mentality that so many MPs have. I would also add that there should be some penalty for MPs that seriously mess up and waste millions of our money on useless, badly planned "vanity projects".
  20. Most usually a rattle is from the heat shield and becomes apparent as things heat up at different rates and so expand at different rates. Only way to determine its exact source is to listen, it's unlikely to be the cat. Possible, but unlikely.
  21. Yes it will.. But not in any way that's harmful. It may be hot at the moment but this is nothing compared with Southern Europe.. Or more extreme, the Middle, Far East and Australasia in particular where 40c is normal. When airflow drops due to being at a standstill the fan should come on to help maintain the temperature within the range designed in by the manufacturer and you can bet there is a lot of leeway at the upper levels before genuine harm is caused. It's nothing to worry about, ever, in the British climate. My GS is air/oil cooled and in the baking heat of southern Italy... Or stop/start in the PO valley and Roma. It went up by one bar. No big deal.
  22. At least we can be grateful for one thing. Brexit will destroy his career in politics once and for all.
  23. Definitely a middle weight "Adventure Bike" and there is a huge choice.. nearly all of which can easily be adjusted so you can flat foot with a 31" inseam.
  24. Amazon is fine for items or more specifically brands that aren't widely available. I wanted a specific tool set and could only get it easily from there and it was the best price. Same went for the torque wrench I wanted as well as some pliers. Brands such as Bahco, Wera, Knipex and Facom.
