  1. Spy is almost exactly 150 road miles from the Tunnel. 2hrs 25 non stop.. but of course, we will stop. (twice) so, we can expect to arrive there sometime before 2pm. So, there is your incentive to have a decent breakfast before we set off. Though there will be two opportunities to grab a baguette beforehand. nom-nom. Spag Bol and cheese... with a cake to die for (for afters) My usual... Then, 18 miles later we leave the motorway.
  2. any gpx. or .gdb floating around i`ll have a copy Create your own, as I have. This is a good start. Eifel...= https://www.dropbox.com/s/whcvtb8yp4c2bhv/Eifel%20Luxembourgl.pdf?dl=0 and this, Luxembourg...= https://www.dropbox.com/s/2uunr15px8qccj0/Luxembourg.pdf?dl=0 Only road on there to avoid.. like the plague is the N67 that runs from Monschau (ish) to Eupen across the Hohe Venn.. its a road from Hell. (one of many in Belgium) Stay within Germany and Luxembourg and you wont go wrong. Be sure to head for the viewing spot above Piesport. as its absolutely stunning. here: https://goo.gl/maps/ZN7iNeAD63sefeYXA
  3. Ive stopped thinking about the price of euros.. just bought my usual amount and thats that. 2 more shifts to work and then I finish on tuesday the 3rd at 10 and dont go back until weds 18th. 5 days leave = 15 days off. This week coming just a matter of whittling down all the routes I have to a more practical number.. compare them so theres little repetition and then transfer them onto the sat nav. Going for the most direct route possible for the return.. so should be quicker. Via Bastogne, rather than La Roche. Weather is talking about some very light rain on the sunday.. but Im not going to worry about that, its bound to change later in the week. aside from that... forecast for Bitburg is high 60s for our week.. starting cloudy and improving. but again, early days. But little chance of the kinds of heatwave we've had the past few times which is fine by me. we might need to be prepared for cooler evenings than the last time. But see how the weather develops... and thats it really.. just a week to go.
  4. Learn from your mistakes. Get the tank repaired or replaced. I doubt you can do anything to recover any monies, given the circumstances. You can't prove anything and you're dealing with a different legal system, different language, with no support. £30 or £40 spent on European recovery and its included insurance through the RAC, Green Flag or similar would have been enough to save you all this trouble
  5. You'll need to sell a few cream buns to pay for that!!
  6. I'm a 38 waist and 44 chest I reckon I'd struggle to get a good fit why do you think that? Rukka do three lengths of trousers in 11 sizes each. and 11 sizes for jackets.
  7. I couldn't care less about the manner other people dress, or ride. There is a penalty for inappropriate dress when things go wrong. Im guessing this chap wont make the same mistake again. a hard lesson though. weeks of pain and sleepless nights...
  8. Might be best waiting.. depends on your income obviously. but a couple of years NCB will have a huge impact on your Insurance when you move up.
  9. So, a co-worker of mine has now failed his theory test 4 times... And Im hoping you lot can point me in the right direction to help him.. he seems to be having the greater problem with the hazard awareness. is there anything he can study or practice on to get past this hurdle?
  10. My rota has just arrived for september and its great. Im working Friday. Monday and Tuesday and then not back until the Wednesday after our return. Perfect. 5 days annual leave = 15 days off. A great side effect of the way our shifts work. I have just had a pair of Rok straps drop through the letterbox.. a bit more user friendly than my usual Bungees. And my Airseat is now on its way. So.. no larry the lanb this year. Long range forecast at the moment is low 20s and mainly dry. for Luxembourg city. so.. hopefully it will stay like that.. much better than a heatwave. We'll have a better idea of the actual weather next week. Just in case anything were to happen to my computer or internet. I will be aiming to get to our same 'meet-up' point as last year at about 2pm. From there we will ride down to South Mimms for a break before the last leg, over the Dartford crossing and on to the Sainsbury to fill up before arriving at the Hotel. Table at the Beefeater is booked for 8pm and I aim to be arriving sometime between 6 and 7 I will fire off an email to the Schloss next week just to ensure everything is tickety-boo and our room keys will be waiting for collection. The Saray grill opening times are unchanged.. closes at 11pm. So on the day, a late breakfast at Eureka. late lunch at SPY. probably around 2-3pm. And the the now traditional kebab and beer once we arrive are freshened up and ready for a stroll into the village.
  11. I cant answer you as being a deformed giant.. i always have to go 'fatter' with jackets to get the arm length... I would think that going slightly larger is more practical.. more 'airy' during the good weather and room for extra layers when it gets cold.
  12. look at the VIN. if the first letter is J then theres not much guesswork involved as to where it was made. (not Italy)
  13. 500 miles is about my limit, though I did 950 once. Only possible when you have your own bed to look forward to and no distractions once at home to keep you up. Going, this same 500 miles is spread over 2 days and is ridden in as relaxed a manner as possible with plenty of rest stops.. Some might think too many. But, the result is what counts.. Arriving at our destination tired but not completely worn out. Because the next day there is another 200 and the day after and the day after and so on. Stop. Have a drink. Go to the loo. Stretch your legs. Walk around a little. This is what works for me.
  14. He can slow down better than you because he can brake as hard as he wants and know that the front or rear wheel will never lock-up and cause a slide. Regardless of road or weather conditions. In normal riding conditions abs will do nothing at all. It comes into its own in panic braking. Someone pulls out in front of you and you instinctively brake as hard as possible. If everything is perfect then even then it may not engage. But if it's not perfect, wet or greasy roads, or you're on the white lines or bad overbanding it might just save you and your bike going down. In 22 years I've had this happen to me 3 times. And it saved me every time. Nowadays you might not even realise it's engaged, unless the dash has a warning light. Some systems cause a pulsing in the brake levers.. Some don't even do that.
  15. My first GS had it in 1997 and I got nothing but piss taking for having it. Was an £800 option and already fitted to the bike in the showroom. So I had it. Took 3 years to pay for itself coming to a junction and a car decided to turn right while indicating left. And the junction was strewn with salt/grit. I was forced to slam on the anchors. ABS kicked in, brake lever pulsed and bike came to a stop, though I nearly had it over when I put my foot down and it slid sideways due to all the grit. Was years later before something similar happened. But I reckon that first time saved me a shed load of cash or possible injury. Or even my NCB and all the pain that follows after a claim in increased renewals. Since then I have had second bikes without. But only because it wasn't available for that particular bike or was an option the original buyer didn't take up. £800 was about average for the option until only relatively recently. A hell of a lot cheaper now that it's ubiquitous.
  16. 14 days and (for me) 6 more shifts at work after todays.... Just euros to collect now.. and buy travel insurance...
  17. here's something you can get behind. perfect for you. perfect for this thread.
  18. This one on ebay looks even more bent.
  19. No it wouldn't. The dealers would realise what was happening within 10 minutes and deliveries switched to pushbikes in another 5 minutes.
  20. This is great advice One of the guys rode this bike to Germany with us last year.. so its very capable and not purely a 'street' bike as its name suggests. You can tour on it too.
  21. The one we stay at - https://www.schlosshotel-neuerburg.de/en/ Its a very "German" Hotel.. with only the owners wife (Daniela) who speaks english. The owner does.. but is limited. From year to year we are the only British people that stay there for more than 1 night.. last year they had no english speakers aside from an American couple. The food is entirely German in character.. so, as soon as I arrive I ask that they do not serve us Sauerkraut. (an acquired taste) They do an amazing Schnitzel.. which is a firm favourite amongst the group. Breakfasts are huge... evening meals are 3 courses. simple, home style. with the pound losing 25% of its value due to the current fiasco, its no longer the bargain it once was. It now works out at about £43 per night Half board including Single occupancy supplement for a double room with en suite. Or a large single with a €5 discount. They know us well and have never asked for a deposit. Mainly because we are always there 'off season' and the guest house is almost empty. They have a garage.. within the guest house, but we never use it. Parking is extremely safe.. we have zero worries. None of the group bother with extra security. So.. the hope is the current disaster is resolved soon and the £ regains its losses and when we return in 2021 it will be the fantastic bargain it always has been.
  22. or your no claims bonus/wallet. which is a rather more likely outcome. If it activates.. odds are its already saved you a bill.
