  1. Changed the fake chrome painted points cover for a nice shiny aluminium one. Also replaced the LH spark plug cap for a longer angled version due to the new coil leads being too short for the original ones to click on properly.
  2. Don't accept the AA putting up your premium, I have the same thing every year. Tell them you are going to join the RAC as they do introductory offers, I've done this several times and the AA always do it for the same price as a new member.
  3. Had the usual run around with my car insurance this week. Got my renewal from Carole Nash, went from just over £200 to £286 with no change of car, drivers or cover. Did a meerkat search and could get the same cover with only a slight increase in voluntary excess with RAC for £146. Rang CN and asked if they could do any better, just one minute later it could be dropped to £199, still not good enough. Said I'm probably going to cancel and will get back to them. Rang the RAC and they pulled the quote out, yep all good but then I remembered my start date was 6 days earlier than I'd put down so I told him, he put the new date in and said it would be another £15, wtf? He said it was a change of risk?? I said I'd check again online, so went back to meerkat, put the new date in and the price with the RAC was exactly the same as the previous online quote. Rang them back and went ahead with the 2nd quote. All a bit of a drag but basically halved what I could have paid CN if I'd just let it run.
  4. Hello and welcome. Good to another 2 stroke on here, I've got two. The leak does look like its coming from the hoses, most likely they are aged and hardened. The spring clips look correct, I have the same on my RGV.
  5. @linuxrob The VJMC main rally is members only I think , I let my membership lapse, it was either VJMC or TMBF who i suscribed to and I felt like I got more out of this forum. Fired it up again yesterday to show #1grandson and it went first kick, he even commented on how well it started.
  6. Glad I bought my RGV when I did, paid £1300 for a non runner in 2013, spent around £3k on it over the years, it would probably cost me £7k to buy it now.
  7. Got the SS running sweetly today, New ignition coil ( do not always believe what it says on ebay adverts, these coil leads aren't 520mm long) but they are just about long enough.Reset the float level to stop it flooding.Charged the battery and took it for a road test around the block.I was a bit tentative as its the first time I've ever respoked any wheels but was all ok. The rear tyre had lost all its pressure so will have to take a look at that, either the Chinese tubes have sh1t themselves already or I've nipped the tube fitting the tyre.Yes I did grind the ends of the spokes down. It's next trip out will hopefully be to the Founders Day rally at Stanford Hall in July, covid allowing of course.
  8. I get on ok with it . I'm on other forums and they are all much the same.
  9. Aslong as the truck always has enough battery range for 4.5 hrs driving it could work? York already has a fleet of electric buses that can last the whole day on an overnight charge it says, we went on one of the older single decker ones when we visited the city a couple of years ago, very quiet, smooth and surprisingly swift for a bus. https://airqualitynews.com/2019/03/27/york-to-get-21-new-electric-buses/
  10. Don't forget truckies are restricted to how many hours they can drive in any period, 9 or 10 hrs in the UK and 11 in the USA ,here they also have to stop after 4.5 hrs for 45 mins so could top up and easily achieve 500 mile range or slightly more in their allotted time driving
  11. And that decade ended with the Wall St crash of 1929
  12. Any 70s two strokes fetch good money,, I'd buy a 70s Kawasaki triple if I had the space.
  13. #1 grandson came round today and wanted to clean "his"bike the RGV. Why not, what harm can he do Gave him a can of wash and wax spray and a cloth and told him what to do. I carried on with what I was doing outside the garage and 5 mins later he called me and said he had broke a light. Found an indicator hanging off, I think he had walked into it. Oh well, I'll take it out of his allowance.
  14. Just love the under seat capacity on the Silverwing. Carried home from work a Mini cylinder head, ice cream tub with the valves in and the blue box is some valve seat cutters. And there was room to spare.
  15. My 2001 R1 is carbed and non abs with 150hp. Still affordable £2k upwards. Not sure there will be much after this year with carbs, mine was the last R1 pre EFI
  16. Hardest part was the exhaust, genuine ones are very rare and expensive when they come up.
  17. Almost 3 years after starting the restoration of the Honda, I'm nearly there. Finished the front wheel this afternoon and put it back in.
  18. Maybe you just want to scratch the itch of owing a litre bike, I did when I bought my EXUP & R1. If you got the 900, you would always wonder "what if" on the 1000. In reality though, the R1 is so fast i can't give it full throttle for more than a couple of seconds in any gear and im over the speed limit so having all that power is slightly academic for me,so having the 900 with lighter weight would be better. I also prefer the look of the 1000
  19. Just great, love a Suzuki 2 stroke, in fact I have two, a GT380 & RGV250
  20. Me, sort of. Sold my cavalier in March and the only part left was a complete std exhaust. Stuck it on ebay and someone bought the cat within 5 mins. Put the rest back on 4 weeks ago for £50, not a sniff of an offer or any interest. Got fed up tripping over it so chucked it down the tip yesterday. Forgot to delist it and got an enquiry this morning after it. An easy £50 down the drain.
  21. 1st tyre was about half worn when I bought it. 2nd tyre, a Continental, good brand I thought lasted about 1500miles 3rd and current tyre, Mitas or something 4th Bridgestone coming up. I put it down to a heavy bike, 230kgs I think, puny 150x13 rear tyre and me riding it pretty hard.
  22. Took the rear wheel out of the silverwing ready for another new tyre, 4th in 2 years and 13000 miles. Trying a Bridgestone this time.
  23. Not today, but yesterday however the rain precluded any pics, an engine less Mini. One of the son in laws had a suitable 1275cc engine which was convenient.
  24. Silly young woman on a road near home today. Went to work in the M3 to pick some things up, nearing home on a side road, goes to overtake a parked car when said woman just pulls straight off her drive behind the parked car and near craps herself when she sees the BM about to drill the side of her car. We both stop and she reverses back onto her drive without any apology and I drive by, watched her in the mirror and she hoons back out into the road and gone.
