1. Knowing your interest in old infrastructure, took a pic of an abandoned pillbox on our afternoon walk. It's on the Oxford canal about a mile from home, it was part of the WW2 defence line as an inland barrier against any invading forces. It's in surprisingly good condition and the entrance remains open; not that I'd venture in there as its full of rubbish and God knows what else.
2. 28 miles each way,Rugby to Banbury. Average time on a bike is 35-40 mins but have done it in 24 mins once at 2 in the morning in my old Cavalier. Worst was about 2 hrs when the roads were flooded after torrential rain. It's about my limit on journey time and if I ever changed jobs again would go for a shorter commute.
3. https://langenmotorcycles.co.uk/ I'm all for 2 strokes, but £28k?
4. Some Rick Stein fish and chips we had in Padstow last week. Nearly £22 for two portions Was tasty though
5. Who else over the age of 50 had to Google WTF Simp September is?
6. I totally get where you're coming from but I don't think our mutual friend will be convinced . Bear in mind that you should use a tiny little torque wrench in INCH pounds to avoid over tightening cam caps . There's many a GSXR and the like been ruined because someone couldn't believe how LITTLE torque is needed to hold down a camshaft . Why pound-inch? GSXR manual says 8-12 Nm which is fairly standard for an M6 fastener in grade 8.8 and well within range of small torque wrenches. More damage most likely from dirty or damaged threads and inaccurate torque wrenches that are never calibrated.
7. What brand tyres you got,are front and rear matched? How old is the new tyre as in year of manufacture?
8. Yes all the above to feed and change a 2&3 year old on a 4.5 hr journey. We can't get into the accommodation until 5pm due to covid cleaning so we're planning on stopping about halfway for a break which from Rugby would be between Bristol and Exeter. Thanks to all the suggestions ,will look through
9. Going on a family holiday next week with the two youngest grandsons to Cornwall and need to stop off somewhere on route on the M5 somewhere between Bristol and Exeter that isn't a motorway services? Any suggestions?
10. my mate has a couple of kettles and had them for years i dont think he would ever sell them and he has just recently bought a gs 750 from dk motorcycles an american import and that is slowly being restored A guy who lives down the road from me has said he would buy the 380 off me anytime I'm ready to sell it which is nice to know. Unlikely I ever will unless we need the money but the R1 would go first if that was the case. Saw someone at Jack's hill cafe a couple of years ago with a mint GT750 which he had bought as an import and restored in around 6 months. There are often a group of friends turn up at the Super Sausage with kettles (the Suzuki kind) and quite a sight to see them all lined up.
11. Fantastic! No grabrail on it though? No never had one. They are fairly pricey and hard to warrant the spend on it for a purely cosmetic touch. If I was to buy anything for it, it would be a new seat, current one is a bit rough around the edges.
12. So it failed on front wheel bearing play which is actually the hub is worn and the bearing moves around in it so the wheel is shot.Trying to source another on fleabay.
13. XTreme as promised, took the 380 out for a spin, first time in over a year I think. Started up easily and rode fine, loving the 2 stroke triple sound track. It's now been in my ownership for over 24 years.
14. When are we going to see the GT380 in action? It's all up and running , insured,no MOT or tax required. Weather looks ok this weekend so I'll give it a run out
15. Agree on air leaks and also check the carb balance, you would need a set of vacuum gauges to do this properly.
16. MOT on the Silverwing tomorrow. The old shop I used to go for MOTs for the last 30 years has closed down so having to try out a new place in Lutterworth.
17. I would echo what goat is saying and look at the economics of it before paying anyone to spruce up a 20 year old bike unless its something special. You could easily end up spending a lot of money and get no added value to an old bike. Take some pics of the offending parts and we can walk you through how easy or difficult it is to sort it and where to find the parts.
18. Don't think I'd want to put my gear in one and risk some toe rag helping themselves.
19. No mention of how much it costs or how much more life you get out of it?
20. I know its sad to see it like this. The bottom picture shows the platform edge in the middle and the track bed is now underwater. There is a great heritage railway further up the GCR line between Leicester and Loughborough I've been to a few times. http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/
21. Walked along part of the abandoned Great Central Railway that passed through Rugby. Last train ran from here in 1969, now a nature reserve and cycle path.
22. Thanks, had a browse online and seen they may be available from Hobbycraft so will take a trip down there later.
23. It was on the Alpinestar boots.
24. Can any bike clothing manufacturer make a decent zip that doesn't break? One of the zips on my Alpinestar boots, just over 2.5 years old, the tab bit has snapped off. Had the same issue with Sidi boots ,my Spidi leathers and Teknic two piece leathers. Normally resort to putting a ty-wrap on it and works just aswell.
