Good Evening

There used to be a cracking chippy that we used to stop at on the way up north, Palombo's Chippy of Balloch. I think it has changed hands now though.

A blessing in disguise

Yes, it would put me off. Cat C is now referred to as cat S, structural damage. Be weary, what was the damage and how was it repaired and by whom.
My old new bike was a Cat N, nothing structural but cosmetically too costly to repair (or so the lying B@stards at 4th Dimension told me) Its now back on the road. But that's another story.

All the very best to the good folk on here A little late I know.
Cant say its the best start of the year, wife's uncle died today. Tomorrow I will be resigning from my current position to venture into somewhere new.

My Wife bought me the Keis heated gloves (she knew I had been looking for weeks) I opted for gloves instead of heated grips.
On New years day, I went out for a ride, over towards Knowl Hill in Lancashire, a mixture of wind and rain, the gloves worked a treat. I also had the Keis heated Gillet, warm and toasty. I would say, if you need them, buy them.
Edit: we searched for sales and discounts, none to be had so took the plunge and bought them.

Never fails ? Christ you're lucky. It's failed me quite a few times. Maybe it's me, patch over the eye, scar on the cheek hook for a hand and a waistcoat with a very popular American motorcycle club's name on the back. Years ago, in Scotland, I did have to sleep in a graveyard, both hotels allegedly full and B&B's not answering the door. More recently, in France, I've managed to turn up in a town hosting some damned sporting or cultural event. Then it was either Formule 1 or the bloody Hilton !
Yep, it must be you

So the consensus seems to be ride light and have a plan B, and a plan C too.
And yes, it is nowadays much easier to dodge bad weather. or at least mitigate it. Sat Navs and smart arse phones seem to be the minimum requirements. Is everybody comfortable plotting out a Plan B or Plan C on a smartphone at short notice ?
And it seems a few of you will book a first night's accommodation and wing it from there on. What if you're in a bad signal area and can't raise Booking.com ? Anyone ever been caught out like that ?
Long before Smart phones and the ability to use Booking dot com on the fly, we would start looking for accommodation around 4pm, just rock up and ask, never fails.

Nice bike. I hope it brings you plenty of enjoyment. I've never owned a Trumpet 800, so I cant add anything constructive, apart from, two riding pals have them and like them

Just book the outgoing and return crossings, either chunnel or ferry. I'll decide closer to the date where I will be going and whether or not to camp or book accommodation. Phone and Sat nav, no laptop/media pad or action cameras. Always travel as light as possible. I have the Crit air sticker, but that's about it.

Unfortunately with the advent of low emission zones the ownership of a newer landrover comes with a huge VED bill (road tax), that and the risk of being very unreliable.
Had to put sensible head on, needed to be ulez compliant, not ridiculously expensive road tax, reasonably economical, ohh and not diesel because of dpf issue with short journeys ie lack of warming up etc.
So I bought. 2 ,1/2 tonne 3.5ltr 8 seater 4x4 petrol nissan with 4cats
Due to quirks of imports it's slightly cheaper to tax and insure than the old landy and I can drive it round town to my heart's content.
That sounds like a mighty fine machine . I have something similar, but its the Toyota but only 3.0 V6. I had LPG fitted, so runs on both petrol and gas

I had a CBR600F4, absolutely brilliant bike, toured around the alps in 2006. Probably one of the best bikes I've owned, although second to my R1.

This morning was waste collection day (paper and carboard) I was out at 6.30am collecting as much of the waste paper and carboard from the wheelie bins that had been left out the night before and had blown into the middle of the street, paper and carboard everywhere. I managed to clean a fair chunk of it up before anyone else came out. Some of the neighbours were oblivious to what had happened.

I was out on New Years Day - A nice ride around the Lancashire Countryside, Keis Heated Gillet and Heated Gloves - it was a warm and toasty ride.
