  1. Get out when it is quiet on roads you know and take your time. Even go somewhere you can practise slow riding (handy for traffic). Get yourself a couple of lessons booked they can teach you the basics. Even on a big bike you're exposed and if you haven't got any road experience driving it makes it worse. Main thing is position where you should be on the road for a given circumstance. You can't give drivers an opportunity to do something stupid that will put you at risk. Start off with short rides then build it up. 50 on a 125 is ample 60 can be scary as it will lurch over bumps etc. Technique is the key, get in good habits before going for speed. Dave
  2. Why do you want more speed. My advice would be to get some experience first, learn to ride, top end speed isn't the be all end all. If you ride better and more importantly safer then journey times will be reduced. Your overall speed through bends will be quicker. Moving from a 125 to a CBR 600 hasn't decreased my commute to work by any significant amount. Dave
  3. My first bike was a Chinese Lexmoto Arrow and I have to say it was brilliant. The key is maintenance, regular checks regular oil changes etc. It gave me 15 months of trouble free riding. If you're handy with the spanners and can do your own maintenance then they are very cheap to run. Yes the tyres are crappy and I changed the ones on mine to Avon's for a very reasonable £120. Pennies to tax and insure and like most 125s ran on air. Parts were inexpensive too from Chinese motorcycle parts online. And I sold it for 50 quid less than I bought it for, but looking after it was the key. If you're after a cheap run around that gets you from A to B then from my experience you can't go wrong. Dave
  4. Just be honest with the dealer tell them that you have two bikes in mind and say I'll let you know ince you've had your test rides. If they then don't give you a test ride then consider what the service will be like if something goes wrong with the bike. They want to sell bikes so should be bending over backwards so you'll buy ine. If they don't personally I would walk away. Dave
  5. There was once a time when we had traffic cops and motorway cops that dealt with these issues. Drink driving is one of the worst crimes anyone can commit in my opinion. Going out getting deliberately drunk and making the decision to drive or ride is appalling. I have seen the direct results of drink drivers who've just had a couple or thought they were ok. It is totally unavoidable. Dave
  6. Get a specific charger for a motorbike battery. Bike batteries aren't big and are soon discharged. Get a charger that also keeps your battery in condition too. I use an Oxford one, can't remember the exact model number but they are a sound investment. Dave
  7. Try removing the egr valve if you have one. When I had a 125 I removed mine and found the engine revs better in higher gears, top speed increases and would hold speed so I didn't keep having to drop down to 4th. Dave.
  8. Might just be that you're down shifting before you've scrubbed off enough speed. This will all come with experience and the more riding you do the more experience you'll get. Everyday on a bike is a school day. Dave
  9. Had a kid pull up along side me with his mates in some M Sport look a like. He starts revving his engine to get my attention. When I look over to him he asks if I think my bike is quick. I say it is. He then asks would it "mash" his car. I replied it would then give it full beans so it's bouncing off the limiter. I then make a big deal of shifting to first, getting over the tank and holding the revs a couple of thousand more than a I ned for a smooth pull away. Anyway young lad falls for it and as soon as the lights change he's off and I just gently pull away in the wake of his burning clutch. Went passed his 20 seconds later as he's stuck in a line of traffic. Such a satisfying feeling.
  10. Might be the switchgear in the right hand side. If it is on the originals they are poor quality. As far as I can remember there is only one fuse which is under the seat so in theory if it's blown nothing should work. There is also the starter solenoid under there too. I'd check all the connections as a start then look to the right hand switch. I have just remembered I had the same fault when I first got mine and changed both. Dave
  11. Ps forgot to mention try chinese motor cycle parts. Everything you need and great prices/ service. I had mine over a year and it never let me down just need regular maintenance. Dave
  12. It is common for these to not show neutral particularly when hot. Unfortunately the bike thinks it is in gear when it doesn't show neutral. just pull the clutch and it should start ok. The batteries appear to be on the small side and if it is slightly under voltage or cold it will only start on the kick. I had one of these and got an Oxford charger for it and then it started every time on first turn. Hope this helps Dave
  13. Just a way to make money with the average speed cameras. M60 is now smart however it still has a 40 mph restriction at 11 on a Saturday night and other restrictions when there is no traffic. Load of tosh, refuge areas a joke. Tell you what rather than spend billions on these things how about improving public transport. Rant over.
  14. They're about 50 quid off eBay then you have to fit it all which is engine apart. Dave
  15. Cheers Winston looked on their site and it states engine run a few degrees hotter but the heat transfer is better. Not being a physicist I have no idea how it works. Lots of the other stuff they say makes sense but I suppose if it was that much better than water and antifreeze then manufacturers would be doing it. Dave
  16. It's for if you drop your bike. Dabe
  17. Is it a tilt sensor or fuel cut off your bike isn't upright it cuts fuel? Just ask Google Dave
  18. I thought the plus point with Evans is that it doesn't get hot. Didn't realise it runs hotter than water. Cheers for that. Dave
  19. Apparently they misses says it's "our" money. Dave
  20. Thanks for the replies. I won't ask about iridium spark plugs Dave
  21. Might sound daft but have you fully charged the new battery. Dave
  22. Hi all, I am thinking of replacing the coolant in my bike with a waterless coolant. I know Evans do a motorbike specific one but has anyone any experience of using it? Cheers Dave
