1. Definitely the initial question could have been answered with no but the the thread has had more use for me than that. Including having a sense of there being somewhere I can come to ask questions and be helped if I mess it all up. Thanks for all of your inputs everyone. Still need to work out where to put the fresh oil but I will work that out when I have the fairing off to change the oil. My manual arrived today and does not cover my bike, I'll have a better look and see if one of the engines is 'pretty much the same as mine apart from the EFI' and go from there.
2. Sorry , what was tongue in cheek ? Basin under bike , undo plug , drain oil, hold bars and move the bike upright, Dain the last bit of oil , put the plug back in , get a measuring jug and pour in the correct amount of oil . Done . Do you need two stands to drain the oil ? No. I assumed the other comment about block and tackle was tongue in cheek. I appreciate your input and guidance. Cheers
3. I do have a telephone pole at the top of my drive?!
4. I assumed that was tongue in cheek. fastbob I gather I can manage without but might be easier with. As it is if the manual arrived before the stand I shall try without.
5. Assume I know nothing. I still cannot find ‘oil in’ confidently
6. Thanks everyone. That lift looks good but for now I have gone for paddock stand things. Just waiting for my Haynes to arrive and the stands so I can change the oil. Feeling rather excited to do something like this for myself.
7. Yup that must be what happened. GREatest showman, from the film
8. Take home message, don’t NEED one to change the oil. Would make it a little easier and a stand will come in useful for future maintainance.
9. If I get a stand what sort of stand do I get? Front wheel stand? Rear? Both? Sorry I really am an idiot when it comes to mechaniccing, promise I have competence in other aspects of life
10. Hello, i’m Ready to change the oil on my bike, I do not have a centre stand. Do I need to buy a device/stand thing or can I manage without?
11. So far I am really liking my Chinese bike. I have nothing to compare it too which might help and maybe it’s a bit soon for things to go wrong. Going to do an oil change this week to look after her.
12. Happy to contribute to that then. If I make it and you go to the next rally thingy I will buy you a pint.
13. No no thank you for the donation I’m getting a lot from here. Seemed fair to buy you a pint for building the place
14. Thank you all, I have a week off this week going to have a go at an oil change and inspection of stuff like chain and so on.
15. Have tried to do that. The forum says it is in an outbox at present. If it hasn’t worked through to you in an hour I will try something else.
16. https://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/partno_OF021 This describes itself as an oil strainer/filter thimble. is that the oil filter? Thank you by the way for looking/advising.
17. Thank you @Via how is the leg by the way? I followed your progress on a thread when I first joined the forum. Did you get the second opinion? Thanks @Hoggs also.
18. I have looked into maintenance courses and they all seem to be for people looking to create a career in mechanicarry which I don't want. I'd love a day course where you take your bike, the parts (which you have been told what to get before you go) and get taught how to do things like oil change, changing break pads, changing chains and so on. Alas I shall have to teach myself but could with a bit of a clue.
19. Looking to get myself the Haynes manual or equivalent for my Lexmoto Falcon XGJ125 27B the ones that are coming up for 'Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean' motorbikes are for carburettor versions, mine is EFI. Can anyone help me know what to buy. I have decided to do all the Maintainance I can for myself and use garage to back my up for proper breakdowns. The owners manual is notary helpful. I want to start by changing the oil and oil filter within the next couple of hundred miles. but have no idea how. I'm an idiot when it comes to practical stuff like this but learn well and want to give it a go.
20. I live in Kings Heath. When I got into climbing I was able to learn from more experienced climbers but. It sure how that could happen with biking
21. Eventually (sooner if I could afford it) I would like to take my tests and have a full license. In the mean time I would like to be more competent and I worry that learning for myself and by myself allows me the chance to just grow bad habits.
