  1. Drain the oil when it's warm and it will drain from the cooler without any further action needed :thumb:

But if the oil gets warm, doesn't that mean the cooler isn't working prop[erly?

  2. The starting issue is what I was referring to. Whilst on a training course for work last year we hooked up a car battery with 110 amps crank power as part of an experiment. The starter motor stalled and full current was drawn across the wire melting it. That was fairly impressive to see

And now kiddies, we all know what fuses are for, don't we?

  3. So 12 volts and 4 ampere/hours and can deliver 30 amps full current is what I make out of that...

It's best to find one that matches the specification of your current battery. A battery too big for your bike power wise might cause problems.

My understanding (which may be wrong, it does happen occasionally) is that the 30A relates to cranking power available. Just 'cos it's available don't mean it's delivered, so it'd be OK so long as it physically fits.

The only time you woulld have a (potential) problem is if there is a fault on the starting circuit and it demands more power than the circuit is designed to take at which point the fuse would blow.

Most Firestorm owners uprate their battery to a higher cranking power battery 'cos they occasionally need an extra kick to start them. Mine used to flatten the battery if it didn't start 2nd push of the button. Since uprating the battery it starts everytime first push.

  4. Wander where MCN get there facts from?

On this occasion I would imagine they got their facts from.... erm.... Bennetts?

Interesting that Bennetts say that the limit that has been imposed is reasonable given that the majority of policy holders only admit to a sngle modification. Seems that past lies DO catch up with Bennetts' policy holders...

Neither of my bikes have any mods. As far as I am aware. How would I know (and should I be expected to know) if Honda fitted Scorpion cans as standard? Or if the bar ends are standard fitment. Or if the length of wire that runs between the horn push and the horn itself is standard or has been replaced at some stage in the bike's history?

  5. :stupid:

Almost everyone speeds to some degree, we have already paid a price for it so why do we have to pay more for insurance for the years ahead. Funny how it wont counter in common sense

Insurance is a risk based business. Premiums are set according to the level of risk. Experience has shown insurers that people that speed are more likely to have a claim. It's really not rocket science you know :P

  6. Yeah but the firmness makes my bike move, at one point both wheels where off the ground, I think it's too stiff...could be sports settings?

If both wheels were off the ground you were travelling too fast.

Before you start fiddling with suspension settings it might make sense to learn how to ride the bike first.

"This bike isn't doing what I expect it to do" might just equate to "I'm inexperienced on this style of bike and need to learn how to adjust my riding style to accommodate the bike"

    Think about it... :D

  7. Every minimal bump my bike jumps! Its quite scary considering, what do I need to change, dampening, rebound? My suspension is fully adjustable, cause I got a tcat!!!!

How do you know that? Is it actually insured and restricted now?

Can't answer your question other than to say it's probably working as intended, personally I quite like feeling every bump and wouldn't want to forego the feedback I get through the suspension.

  8. I'm taking the CBT out the picture I think,

Erm, forgive me if I'm not reading this correctly, but when you say the above, are you meaning that you don't plan to do the CBT?? :?

If so you'll have to think again! CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training and everyone HAS to do it before being allowed on the road!

I thought that too, I bet he means DAS though, not CBT

  9. According to friends, it's very hard to fail... is this true?

It's impossible to fail. It's training, not a test.

It is possible to not complete the training in a single session though, which is a bit like a fail I guess.

But in all honesty, it's easy so long as you listen and do what they tell you to do, when they tell you to do it. And above all, enjoy the day.

  10. Wash all the wax off that is already on it. Probably with hot water and washing up liquid as the carwash

Washing up liquid attacks car paint, so at a guess it will attack motorcycle paint too.

The second must-know is to always use a car shampoo and not washing-up liquid.

"It is best not to use washing-up liquid on paintwork as it may be too aggressive for the lacquer, always use a car wash shampoo," Ken stated.

  11. My kawasaki kh125 1981 wouldnt spark so i got an electrician to locate the problem which he thinks is the coil pack, so I got a new ignition coil which I think is the same thing but the coil pack on the bike has one lead connecting to the spark plug (same as the new one) but 2 other wires coming out of it and the new one has only one. Anyone know where I can find a coil pack to fit my bike, it has a 6v battery.

  12. Why not? Plenty do.

I hear they are prone to rust?

Noooo, surely not? Isn't it just Chinese bikes that rust?

Seriously though, given the choice between hanging up my bike keys for 5 months or dealing with a little rust... there's no contest. And anyway, wouldn't want to miss my Xmas day rideout to McD

  13. By far the best thing to do is avoid all that faffing around, insure it, and ride it through the winter!

suzuki + salt on roads is a good idea? lol

    Why not? Plenty do.
