  1. Spock is not human so I rest my case.
  2. Nah, you have to wait until Chinese New Year for the meteorite, alien invasion and probably a plague of locusts. Possibly Armageddon too.
  3. What? Hang all the politicians? Can't see it catching on as he'd have to hang himself too.
  4. Somehow I think it might be difficult to get anyone to become a politician under those circumstances. Whether that would be a bad thing I leave to others to judge!
  5. I'm no advocate of the death penalty mainly due to the horrendous executions carried out in Singapore. For drug trafficking the only sentence a judge can give if found guilty is death. When 16 year old girls get hanged after being duped into being drug mules I am not a fan. Certain crimes should carry whole life sentences. I have found though that as a subject for discussion it's pretty hard to get past the emotions whichever side of the argument you fall.
  6. Alfa Romeo155 Boxer eng. Front 2 spark plugs not too awful. Rear two, disconnect driveshaft and partially drop engine. Never done except by garage.
  7. As human beings though I would say its virtually impossible to completely separate emotion from any and every thing we say or do.
  8. If you are referring to capital punishment then I'd agree; if you are referring to Brexit I'd have to differ.
  9. Don't think I'll bother. If I've reached my current level of antiquity without knowing I can probably manage to survive the lack.
  10. Bet that involved a bit of taking the Lord's name in vain!
  11. The trouble with logic is that it's not necessarily empirical. Sometimes what appears absolutely logical to one person is completely illogical to another. This is especially true when you are talking about moral values, ethics, and unquantifiable issues where emotions are involved. For me newtonian physics are logical but any kind of quantum theory just blows my mind. It requires faith ffs!
  12. We had snow again this morning and as I had nowhere I had to be stayed home in the warm drinking coffee.
  13. I think the thing that sold me was the fact the heat settings were so variable. The longevity of the batteries was also a plus. They aren't particularly bulky either, certainly no more so than a standard winter glove. Finally I had an end of year bonus to spend so I wasn't entirely tied to a budget. Would I buy them again? Ask me in the spring after a lot more miles.
  14. I've posted a review of the gloves in the tried and tested section.
  15. I bought these gloves to combat the issue of frozen finger tips. I opted for battery powered ones as I didn't want to add another power drain to the bikes electrics and the additional costs involved. That said these gloves are NOT cheap. Firstly I'll list the pros and cons: Pros Definitely kept my fingers warm on a 230 mile each way trip which had temps as low as 0 and nothing higher than 3 C. Battery life of larger battery (3000mAHr) was sufficient to get from Scotch Corner to Strensham Services. Waterproof. Well made apparently. Batteries are fairly slim and compact. Not too thick or bulky for comfortably operating bike. Batteries are slim line and re-charge on the provided charger in about 3 hours. Cons Bloody expensive - £290 plus an extra £80 for the larger batteries. French designed (okay) Chinese made. (To be fair the quality seems good). Batteries as fitted are only 2200mAHr and are only good for a couple of hours. They are operated by way of an app - Clim8 freely downloaded and available for Android or Apple. This means the amount of heat they provide depends on how you set up your profile. They are "smart" in that they automatically switch on when you put the gloves on and off when you remove them. My experience with this is good but you need to overstate your sensitivity to cold. The result is not that you get a feeling of toasty warm hands but that your fingers stay at whatever is normal for you; they don't get cold. When the batteries did die on me I could have stopped and changed them for the "as supplied" 2200mA ones but because I was only 25 miles from home decided to press on. Wished I hadn't as by the next half hour saw my finger tips frozen! They are waterproof although I was riding in snow and light rain, not monsoons. In summary they do the job and are comfortable. They are not cheap. 16. Happy New Year and let's hope its better than the last. BTW what's with setting off the fireworks at about 8pm? Seems a bit pointless! Round here I thought they'd started the revolution early there was so much going off.
  17. Happy days and we won't see the like again.
  18. I'm more than willing to let the French have him but quite what they have done to deserve him I'm not sure.
  19. Miscarriages of justice are even more likely if the police are under massive political pressure to solve a crime. Twisting the facts to fit and being selective with your evidence presented in court is always going to be difficult to deal with.
  20. Please, please, please! I want the most boring year ever.
  21. Look on the bright side - one of society's current bogeymen is a suicide bomber. By their actions they proclaim their guilt and at the same time solve the problem of punishment.
  22. I'm not offended, interested in what you say. I know dna can be contaminated but my son in law is a cop and some of the things he's seen do make you understand why some people consider judicial killing desirable. Funnily enough he does not, but he does think certain crimes should carry life long sentences. At least then if new evidence does come to light the prisoner may get some life back.
  23. I'm no fan of capital punishment as all too often cases that could be capital are found to have been miscarriages of justice. A posthumous pardon doesn't really cut it. That said certain crimes such as the abduction / rape / murder of children where there is incontrovertible DNA evidence should at the very least result in a full life term, no parole. Death sentence could be an option there but I'd not be willing to pull the lever. Unless of course it was one of mine who was the victim then I'd be very Old Testament.
  24. Needed to see my parents before Covid Episode 2. Wife was using her car so bike was only option. Can't say it was exactly fun but all my kit worked as advertised so that was a plus. Just my toes were absolutely bloody frozen. Now investigating toe warmers but not planning a test anytime soon!
