  1. Just come back from Brands Hatch where the entire viewing areas including the pits were swarming with these tiny white flying things. Thought it was ash from a bonfire as they were so small and numerous.
  2. Do you need a key for petrol cap too? Might be worth talking to a locksmith, if they can read the wafers and cut you one? But ... I just ordered new barrel for a doer upper Deauville, £8 Chinesium one on ebay
  3. Give them an overnight soaking with plenty of plus gas - and then some more. Sometimes trying to tighten just a little more before an attempt to undo can work too.
  4. Black & Decker 1 - Pannier 0 Thanks for the replies. Shep
  5. +1 for Monimoto. I got an extra fob and keep one each in summer / winter jacket. Very quick to ring the mobile if I move the bike without the jacket on.
  6. Thanks for the reply - I wasn't sure if drilling would leave the locking pins in place, but I assume they'll fall into the space creared by drill bit. Fingers crossed for the 'driller thriller' on Wednesday!
  7. After having my Deau written off a couple of years ago, I decided it was time to get another to A) Get me through Winter & B) Give my sorry a## a break from the Versys I currently use. I didn't want to use the Versys in the Winter, it has been looked after so far, but I don't want to have to keep covering it and locking it away every night etc. The Dullsville can be left on the drive as is. Funds dictated what I could get, and I ended up with a clean looking 10' Plate that was a stolen/recovered insurance job, purchased (unknowingly) from the dreaded 4th Dimension ebay listing. Anyhoo, the locks have all been screwdrivered to destruction, which means I can't open the Panniers to get the seat off etc. (The release lever is inside the pannier!). The ignition has been bypassed with a switch, and the H.I.S.S, is still active, so the key is left in the useless ignition barrell when in use. Sorry, long intro for a quick question ... Can I just drill the lock barrels out to gain access? I know I can use the ' proddy stick method' to release ( if ya know - ya know ), but only when unlocked. Will drilling the barrel be enough, or am I going to lose the pannier lid to gain access? If I drill the hinges at the bottom, I think the tops will still be locked shut. Typically, the right hand side is open! Any tips welcomed! I posted on the Deauville forum, but it looks a little quiet on there compared to here.
  8. Apparently, you open a message to your Wife, click the paperclip and Location is one of the options to share. Not gonna tell my missus that!
  9. You can do this with WhatsApp too. When my daughter wakes up, I'll find out how
  10. I liked the all day comfort of Eggz, I just couldn't get hold of the tabs to remove them. Other than that I'd wear them instead of Loops.
  11. I don't think the mute insert works with the 'Quiet' range - there is no tiny hole to block up? The Quiet range are supposed to reduce by 27db against 18db for the experience range. I found that going slightly smaller with the bud size and only inserting enough to form a seal works best. I can't find any ear plugs that are as Quiet as I would want, but the loops are the best of the bunch for me.
  12. I've had dealings with 4th dimension - would never use them again. Churchill should get this sorted for you with the least hassle.
  13. This could be normal. My CB125F never liked dropping in to 1st gear until I completely stopped, and sounded like a ratchet when I tried to do so. As Bender said, a little blip helps.
  14. Thank you both. I'll give MyRoute App a go on my next day's off. Is it a free to use app, or have a free trial? Play store not letting me sign in ...
  15. I had to travel from near Southend to Donnington a few weekends ago, and wanted a simple app that I could put in start and finish points. I wanted to put in places to go through on the way (way points?), but without having to stop and acknowledge that I'd been through. I just wanted to 'see' them, not visit them. Google maps couldn't do it, Waze couldn't do it and lots of others needed me to have a pc and transfer to my mobile etc. If you can make it as simple to change the route as google maps pc version does, once start point and destination are input, it'd be a winner for me.
  16. To be honest, the Eggz were barely noticeable every time I used them. Couldn't feel them at all. Nice and quiet, but I just couldn't deal with the removal of them. I have a 'thing' about objects / insects etc getting stuck in my ears and not being able to remove them straight away was a problem. That said, I still use them from time to time, it depends what jacket I put on as I keep them in the pocket. Nifty little storage tube for them, but the loops one is quicker and clips to bike key ring without damaging the paint. I can feel the loops sometimes, but it's not a problem. I find they just 'drop in' to position and form a good seal. I use Loop "quiet" , not the motorcycle ones. A few decibels more reduction in noise, but I can still hear what I need to. The different sizes is a nice touch too - especially as my daughter uses them and we exchange the unused sizes with each other. Easier to keep clean too, in my experience. Hope this helps.
  17. I'm also a tinnitus sufferer, and wear ear plugs on every journey. Eggz are the best fit for me, but I struggle so much trying to remove them. The little tab is way too small for me to grab. I switched to Loops, and find them just as good and a lot easier to remove. Also, it's a case of getting a good 'seal' and not just ramming earplugs in as far as they'll go. My right ear takes the loop plug fine every time, but in my left ear I have to insert the loop and pull it out just a little. Oh-err missus! I also adjusted my screen for the Summer to make it lower and having the air flow against my chest instead of failing to get it to go over top of my lid.
  18. https://www.cmsnl.com/ For the extremely limited bits I've purchased, takes 3 or 4 days but the website makes identifying the parts a little easier. Wemoto too. Not tried Fowlers though, but I know others here use them too.
  19. Been out and about a couple of times, with and without using rear brake. Disc temps are fairly equal, so must have been an odd reading before. Still got the squeal though, after pumping the pistons out as far as I dare to give them a clean. Looks like it's off to the bike garage after the weekend for a brake service
  20. Will try a ride tomorrow without back brake if possible. I do use the back brake, but not a lot. Brakes aren't linked. Thanks for the replies.
  21. Forgive the possibly daft question ... Should my rear brake disc be hotter than the front? I had a brake squeal, from what I thought was the front. Removed calipers and cleaned up pistons and the pin that goes through the pads on both front discs and the single rear one. Still had the squeal, but now not sure if it's front or rear, so I took my temp reader to them and the rear was at 40° against 25° on the fronts. Made me wonder if the rear is binding a little, or if the front are air cooled against the rear next to exhaust etc? Got a weekend of a few hundred miles coming up, and don't want to have a problem. Bike is a Versys 650 mk3, so no centre stand to easily get the wheels in the air.
  22. It's not a change of direction, so I wouldn't signal. I'd position myself so that I'd carry on in to the left hand lane and continue straight. My instructor told me not to signal to go past a parked bus whilst doing my lessons - it didn't help anyone behind me as they could see what I had to do anyway.
  23. Got snapped at the Burnham Bends with my daughter pillion. Had the picture printed on a 5'x3' canvas and stuck it on the bike shed wall. One of my first rides out with a pillion, and I still smile whenever I open the door to put the bike away. I consider myself lucky that my daughter still wants to spend time with an old git like me
  24. I found it tough until I read on this forum about applying a few more revs, but with a little rear brake applied. Looking where you want to go is easier said than done, but force yourself to do it just for the test. Remember, it's just half of the figure 8 that you find easier (we'll, I did). Keep up the practising, it'll sort itself out. Never needed to do one since...
