I will see what price the tank will be but I am considering building it myself out of plywood and timber and lining it with acrylic sheet, not sure whether to use glass for the front or stick with acrylic though, need to think about that

Just come back from a local specialist shop, they will get back to me with a price for a custom made tank, but I will have to make some slight compromises to fit in the filtration so it will end up being a bit higher but not by much, tbh that was just me being a little picky about it, but if it has to higher then so be it. It will be lidded but I will be making that myself, the tank itself will have glass sliders, there will be a 50mm gap each side between the tank and wall to allow for pipe work and cables.

Going 600 high and 1400 width will give me a 400 litre tank and leave either side 50mm free for cables and pipes etc and enough storage underneath. Think a visit to some places might be in order and make a shortlist of species to consider

@Gerontious Thanks but not really suitable, I want a low level setup the max height from floor to top of tank is 41 inches, which would allow me a 600mm tall tank and let me make the most use of the 1500mm length I have wall to chimney breast I want to keep it below the dado. Here is a photo of the space, the sofa will be moved and that area will be left open.

    Aquariums

Had 3 tanks when I was growing up at home and had a smallish one about 15 years ago, but now that I am settled thinking about starting up again with a freshwater tropical. I have an alcove that I can utilise and will accommodate a 300/350 litre tank I could push it to 400 if I go taller, the space is 1400mm wide and 500mm deep and is shaded from the window by the chimney breast, it will be about 3ft away from a radiator but I don't have the heating on very often and usually the room stat is set at 20/22C, so a few degrees below what the tank temp will be. Had a look online but I want to try and avoid the so called starter tanks, I have set a budget of about £1000 for the tank and accessories not including dressing the tank and stocking it, I will build my own stand for it, this is a long term project that will take a few months to develop and looking at getting it ready for stocking by xmas, as it is a present to myself. So can any current active members recommend any companies or brands for equipment etc, also any guides that people have found useful, many thanks

    Spam call.

I like the ones from Microsoft saying there is something wrong with my computer, but they never seem very happy after a long period of time when i tell them I use Linux
  10. I got a bit wet being out and about today but it's not everyday you get to say that you towel dried Xena after a shower
  11. Maybe it is maybe it isn't what harm is there in replying sensibly even more so when we are seriously lacking in female members, it is a sure fire way to put off potential members who are currently guests just checking out the place. If she does turn out to be spam what harm has been done anyway apart from a few wasted minutes typing a response.
  12. Tbh an AGM with good cranking amps and a decent size AH would be fine, I swapped the SLA from mine to an AGM and I think I have only ever charged it once from flat in over 12 months
  13. Had a ride to Go Outdoors mainly to look at fishing luggage, seen a nice holdall for a reasonable price and looking at some new telescopic sea rods, there is some good gear at very reasonable prices I can feel a shopping day happening in the very near future
  14. Hi Bob, it's not the rad the cooling system is full it's the mechanical seal behind the impeller that is keeping me amused
  15. Hello and welcome
  16. Maybe so! but last night I had comments on how well she still looked after 2 years of ownership, and apart from this seal which could happen on any machine she has had no major issues
  17. Good morning something weird is going on with Xena, yesterday morning I checked her for leaks and nothing, then got all loaded up to go out and just as I got ready to go checked again and coolant was peeing out so put her away and cycled, later in the evening I checked again and there was a slight dribble, then at the club meet talking to other members tried her again and she was dry nothing, kept checking on the way home and still nothing, I haven't checked this morning yet but will do in a bit, very strange
