Tokico 6 pots cleaning
Ian Frog replied to Ian Frog's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
From what I can tell the dishwasher tablets don`t have salt, however even if they did the calipers were totally dry when I retrieved them and I always intended to give them a wipe down with brake cleaner prior to pads etc going back in so I am hoping the salt effects will be minimal??? As a footnote I have also carried on cleaning and I have used WD around the seals and outer surfaces (NOTE prior to the re-installation of pads etc). Cheers Ian -

For what it's worth this is where I am so far. Both calipers have been through the dishwasher ( with grudging permission lol). Caliper on the right hss then been GENTLY polished using a toothbrush and Solvol being very careful. Now the controversial bit to remove the last of the polish residue following the brake cleaner I have dampened a rag with WD40 and gone round all the crooks and nannys. I have been cautious and the pads are already out and in a seperate bag with the pins etc ( before the inevitable horror stories about lubricant and braking lol ). Interested if I can find an easier way to improve the results? Cheers Ian -

Copious amounts of brake cleaner already used as first choice but the matt finish clings on to the brake dust residue. I don't own a sonic bath so the dishwasher was an idea. It's more a case of not wanting to go too heavy with scrubbing etc as the gold coating is probably not that robust. Cheers Ian -

progress ! Fork oil arrives this afternoon and query about calipers in new thread on old bikes and restorations. Cheers Ian

Just a thought which you might be able to help with. The calipers on the ZRX have that horrible matt gold finish that is a pig to clean ( see attached example) so I wondered as the pads are out and the fluid holes are blocked with bolts would it be worth running through the dishwasher? Obviously I would either wait till Carol is out or otherwise distracted. Its just that after ages of scrubbing with brake cleaner I dont want to damage the gold finish. Cheers Ian

weather is horrible so decided to start the service stuff on the ZRX. Oil and filter today fork oil change when Wemoto delivers the 10W hopefully tomorrow so I will strip front end down and get ready maybe leave legs to drip out overnight. Cheers Ian

Less than 10 miles away we had a dusting of wet slimy snow which is disappearing fast. Do you find that washing and ACFing your duvet helps? Cheers Ian

Good morning. Wet slimy snow falling gently in Northants (Hardly the frozen North). Cheers Ian

Ducati ST2 : Amateur Restoration Take 2
Ian Frog replied to Hairsy's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Just a thought for you before you attempt any start up. You said you believe the belts were changed but it is possible the bike has stood for a couple of years. I would strongly suggest you change the belts prior to any start up as a snapped belt could have major consequences to the viability of the whole project, belts as you rightly said earlier don1t like being left standing. Good luck Cheers Ian -
You wait till you see how the Kettering player you have "bought" turns out lol. Cheers Ian

Do you carry a puncture kit?

For what it's worth this is the one I have. 4 years old now and used for a variety of jobs including wheelbarrow and the car. cheers Ian -

I have a small repair kit with emergency capsules on each bike and a rechargeable pump in the topbox of the BMW which gets rehomed if any journey on another bike is more than 100 miles. Funny how since carrying the repair kits I have had less (zero I think) punctures. Cheers Ian -
If you ride I have a garage to park in just round the corner from Alumasc. Cheers Ian

Hopefully I wont need my car today so protecting the space outside my place lol. If you are quick the carpark outside the community centre still has spaces. Cheers Ian

Is DIY an option? Feck health and safety I think it would be great fun and take us all back to those glorious days of criminal irresponsibility we call our childhood. Maybe even a TMBF competition ? Cheers Ian
