  1. its standard for them to drain the fuel if you think of the damage to some of the cars/bikes/lorries that could be stored there then all remaining fuel is drained to eliminate fuel fires and batteries are disconnected to ensure no electrical fires can start, what happens to the fuel drained well thats another story altogether but lets say most of the people working at said yards get the offer of free or cheap fuel be it petrol or diesel
  2. you cant get the rear head off the vfr without dropping the engine it weas hard enough removing cam cover involveing removing rear sub frame and moving it back a couple of inches to gain access but once engine out then like he others have said it depends on how its snapped in the hole as they are buried deep into the head
  3. doesnt matter on year as you willbe getting v5 with frame so that willgive you the year as they didnt change much on them over the time they were made and being a bare frame if it is missing a lug or 2 you can remove themfrom your frame and weld them in place on new frame
  4. glad its all sorted and you are out there enjoying it now well done
  5. wiring harness are different for different years you need to know year and model number 2gh 4rl or what ever is marked on frame will tell you
  6. could always buy a legal frame with v5 and transfer all the bits over
  7. This... that
  8. well done just mod 2 now and your onto bigger toys to ride good luck
  9. i thought there was only 3 torque settings................thats tight.................thats f***ing tight..............and that f***ers going nowhere now
  10. spray some wd40 or carb cleaner around the hoses with engine ticking over if revs increase you have a problem on one of the hoses dont go mad with spray and do small area at a time so you can tell problem area if there is one
  11. i would go with stu on this one as the more you are applying the pressure the more fluid is going to compress to where it will have nowhere to go once u open a pipe/nipple its then doing the job of the return hole in the master cylinderso as you have got to drain that to check do both jobs at t he same time drain fluid check return in master cylinder then top up with fresh fluid and rebleed
  12. I always thought this, left foot change to netural , right foot on rear brake, then left foot down.!(but that was 20 odd years ago) that would mean being stopped with both feet on the foot rests i agree with chris and glad i passed my test back the dark and distant past
  13. as you are over 17 years old once you have passed your cbt you can ride up to a 125cc bike just make sure that your eu licence has got motorcycle provisional on it
  14. good to see everyone tonight and in typical harley fashion it threw the rear light lens into a ditch on the way home have no idea where but a good evening was had
  15. only help i can give is that it is not on current insurance database so if it is still about its hidden up somewhere or in a collection somewhere
  16. one of the best you can buy is the abba stand a lot of money but will allow you to get either rear wheel off the bike or front wheel but not both together, yes you do get what you pay for with the paddock stands ther are some real crap ones out there and some good ones but i think most would agree about the abba stand
  17. decent socket set then plus the usual padock stand if you need it
  18. decent socket set/screwdrivers/metric spanners are the main things you will want for doing any work on the bike yourself plus of course the basic pliers and thin nose pliers also worth keeping a magnet in the lid of the tool box in case you drop a nut or bolt and cant reach it with fingers then you can use long piece of metal and the magnet, also decent cross head/philips screwdrivers if good quality are already magnetic due to the way they are made
  19. fuel tank is normally rubber mounted to insulate it from the bike apart from having fuel gauge fitted which will have its own earth,it sounds more like a wiring or cable problem to me whch is being allowed to move when tank is lifted
  20. i know they are a lot of money but they are the best in the world at what they do all t he big bike dealers use them to get panels and tanks painted on bikes they are selling.only other thing you can do is try some local car body repair centres and see what they say it will also be a lot cheaper if all one colour and not different colours
  21. if you have got the old panels the easist way round it is to repair and paint them yourself of if you want them done back to original contact dream machine not cheap but very good work and comes back in original colours and all original decals as well
  22. yes it will fit as with all exhaust swaps before you try removing yours give the nuts a wire brush up and a good squirting of something like wdd40 and allow it to soak in overnight this will lessen the chances of anything shearing off but it might still happen so just take care
  23. looks a nice easy project to get it back to nice condition where it has been sat around for a lot of its life itis worth checking the underside of the swinging arm between frame rails at the fron of the arm as they are known to rot out there like the cx500 does just give it a look and if it looks rusty just give it gentle tap to make sure its safe and sound as the last thing you want is it breaking up on you while riding
  24. i would tip a tiny bit of oil down the spark plug hole before turning it over to much to make sure the lining of the barrel gets some lube down it change the petrol in the tank drain the carb and put some fresh fuel in and see if it will fire up once you have checked oil level
  25. first of all get someone to sit on it for you and check chain tension and adjust if needed, move the bike forward a few times while checking chain to see if it has got a tight spot and if it has then adjust it at that point. After checking chain tension check clutch adjustment and free movement at the lever if you have got a manula for the bike it will tell you how much play there should be at the lever and you can adjust it using the adjuster sticking out the rear of the clutch lever
