  1. Cheers. I’ll look out for those
  2. Yup. I did say I’m keen on these books
  3. Any chance of a link? TIA
  4. That’s in my collection
  5. I enjoy reading motorbike travel books - think Jupiter’s Travels by Ted Simon or Revolutionary Ride by Lois Pryce. I have a fair selection of titles. I’m looking for more books in the same vein. Any suggestions for other books linked to biking?
  6. Yes. But I married the wrong one. I have made a full recovery after the divorce and have been happily shacked up with my good lady for 18years.
  7. We’re about an hour from Keswick. We’re quite familiar with the area since we’ve been visiting and fell walking for a fortnight every year for the last 20years. Always out of season to avoid people. I did some volunteer riding during lockdown last year, delivering scrubs to the Egremont area. It would have been rude not to return via the Lakes.
  8. Thank you chaps. We’re just a little East of Carlisle, about 50 miles from Newcastle. I’d be happy to meet up for a cuppa and/or a ride at some point.
  9. Hopes for biking: Having moved nearly 300 miles in 2019, with minimal chance to explore, we’ll be having days out riding out from home around Dumfries, Scottish Borders, Yorkshire, Durham etc. If travel abroad possible then we fancy a trip back to Switzerland, otherwise we’ll be couch surfing at one of the kids’ houses in Glasgow, and possibly some friend’s place in Perth, as a base to ride around Scotland. Away from biking, we’ll continue renovating the house, and do more fell walking.
  10. Great fun. Fabulous sound at higher revs. An hour of riding at a time was quite enough, though. Especially compared with the VFR which was an armchair by comparison.
  11. Yes. I kept it for a year then flogged it for the same as I paid for it. It was a fine bike, one I loved the look of from the first time I saw one. Common sense told me it wasn’t the right bike for me, though. Norwich Beer Festival has a lot to answer for.
  12. I would just like to add a note of caution. Do not buy a bike off eBay after midnight after a night at a beer festival. *cough*
  13. Judo is most definitely a sport. Judoka are definitely fighters, not players, though. Have a read of the book “The Pyjama Game” by Mark Law. Like most physical contact sports, there can be long-term injury issues. It’s not selective about the part of the body, though. I’m still a slip of a lad at 67, though when there’s guys like Tony Underwood (75) and Stan Cantrill (74) still training and, in Stan’s case, competing in Masters events.
  14. Sort of. I’ve always said that Judo is as much use as gymnastics in a scrap. You’d be, in general, fitter and have better spacial awareness which could work to your advantage. Mates of mine were bouncers in some rough places in Brum and they generally found that they could grapple the other guy to the ground whereupon it would be easy to subdue the ruffian they were dealing with - not many people were good on the ground, and kit isn’t needed to handle people in that situation. I, naturally, never got into any scraps, so I have to take their word for it. And I used to know a few women like that.
  15. I didn’t think it was binary question. Not a HHGTTG fan, I take it?
  16. The answer is 2a according to Deep Thought.
  17. The little sod is still training...he’s a lot more motivated than I am. I gave up competing some years back, he’s hoping to get into competition next year if the vaccine rolls out quick enough.
  18. My dad lived to be 91, my mum is 91 and still going strong. Genetically, I should do ok, still another few years left in this body. As for “OK Boomer”. It hasn’t happened yet as I remind myself I was young once before criticising them.
  19. I sure feel old after a training session with my son. Unfortunately (perhaps fortunately) that’s not happening often nowadays.
  20. Suffice to say, above state pension age.
  21. Too many variables in imperial and not intuitive. Besides, I’m older in imperial.
