  3. Slow speed off on snow. The hip and elbow padding did its job.
  4. Not sure about white helmets, but I've taken to wearing hi-viz on my commute after seeing a biker a few cars ahead of me get taken out by an emerging car. Seems to help, but you never know. Also, spotlights low down create a triangle effect with the headlight, which helps drivers gauge distance better. A little weave to make yourself more visible might help (if they happen to be looking your way). If nothing else, it's an extra point in your favour on the insurance claim.
  5. Hi, I'm reliably informed that we're on the cusp of summer.
  6. On my Tiger Explorer I have the same problem the opposite way around (main beam works, dipped headlight doesn't). Current theory is a bad connector, but I've got to take the tank off to find out.

    Hello

    Hi, welcome.
  8. It's well known that Bishops can only move diagonally. Maybe that's why they were stopped.
  9. We still have the led spots and centre small bulb, at least. Reading the Triumph forum it's likely to be a bad connector under the tank. If not possible to fix on the road, I'm wondering about the feasibility of blocking out the top half of the headlight grille with black tape - so as not to blind oncoming traffic - and using the main beam.
  10. We have just developed exactly the same fault . Of course, it's while we're on a bit of a tour. Have bought WD40, will check fuses etc. tomorrow.
  11. Hi, good to have you along
  12. We use the Fodsports FX2 (read "cheap") with earplugs. No issues.
  13. Having just rerun it.. Third Party - £1019 TPFT - £1100 Fully Comp with £500 voluntary excess .- £1473 (new today) With a bike worth £9650 I would only go fully comp. That's garaged, license held 2 years, inc. Pillion and commuting, 9,999 miles annually. It's not really worth switching at this point.
  14. The quotes in question were fully comp. It's just the current bike that is Third Party.
  15. I need to move to a nicer neighbourhood
  16. I used to work for a smallish travel firm which had been founded by a husband and wife couple. She once turned up at the airport having forgotten her passport, and upon being told that she would not be permitted to board, promptly stamped her foot, declared that she was the party leader and simply had to be let on the plane. Deciding that it would be better to let the mugs at the destination airport handle her, they actually let her fly!
  17. So I spies a very nice Tiger Explorer Alpine Edition on AutoBay or eTrader or suchlike. "Mmm", thinks I. "Shiny and new(ish) - 4 years old - with fancy metal panniers. What's not to like?" Same place as I bought the Thunderbird. Decent bloke, knows his bikes. He actually sold my mum her first scooter in 1983. (It was a 90cc machine, she only had a licence for a 50cc - what a rebel!) My Tiger Explorer is 11 years old with the best part of 60,000 miles on the clock. I do 12 thousand a year. It's had a new shaft, new rear shock, new fork seals, new ignition barrel, new heated grips, new led spots, exhaust repair - and a few other bits besides. Some of the work I do myself, some the garage takes care of. It's just a matter of time before the exhaust / clutch / radiator decides to have a bad day. Wouldn't it be nice to get something new and shiny? Goes on confuse the market dot com... No it wouldn't. The cheap quotes are well over £1,500. I think last year I paid just over £200 for Third Party Fire and Theft on the current bike. I'm expecting a hike in August, but still... For the difference, I could keep fixing up the old bike for ever. I think they call it Bangernomics. Oh well, back to reality...
  18. No biggie, but I inadvertently clicked the Twitter / X Link at the bottom of the page. It goes to a non-existent account. https://twitter.com/UKBikerforum
  19. Good luck with the search
  20. Hiya, nice list there.
  21. Just noticed something of which I should probably already have been aware. If someone posts bad news, for example "my wife just took the dog and left me", they will often get a number of sad reaction emojis from the community. Not usually a problem, as most of us tend to be fairly upbeat. But recently a new member has come along with a couple of posts about a technical fault and subsequent poor dealer service. He received a couple of expected sad faces in sympathy. Probably unbeknownst to those giving the reactions he's now left, not only with a knackered bike, but with a reputation on the forum of minus (count them) two.Talk about rubbing salt in the wound! I checked this with my own profile. 773 hearts 296 laughs 64 thanks That's 1,133 reputation points, showing that although I'm not that helpful, at least my posts are sometimes entertaining. But wait! I have 48 "sad" faces and a couple of confused ones. Taking these away from the total gives 1,072. (My actual reputation is 1,073, so can only assume I get a point for completing my profile or something). What can we learn from this? 1. If you're going to give someone a "sad" reaction make sure you know what that does to their reputation on the forum. 2. If you're going to post a sad story about your wife leaving with your dog, throw in a funny quip about how much you miss him to keep it light.
  22. How is one supposed to plan to be trapped inside a pub without all the requisite information ahead of time?
