  1. It got down to -10 on my drive into work.
  2. Reminds me of the old airline advert: Breakfast in London, lunch in New York To which some wag appended: Baggage in Buenos Aires
  3. Sorry to hear. Take care.
  4. Thanks both, it was a bit of an experiment really. Giving up as I've found some genuine replacements for not too much on flea Bay. Bigger problems now as the electrics are dead. The blessed ignition barrel or wires thereto have given out (loose connection, which quickly became no connection). At least it happened on the drive rather than halfway down the M53 in freezing temps...
  5. The heater wires on my left hand grip have gone, so I thought I'd be clever and re-wire it with new Nichrome 80 0.1mm 38 Gauge AWG 40M Roll 143.9Ohms/m Heater Wire. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B015K42M4M?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image Suffice to say, it didn't work. There's voltage to the supply wires, but absolutely no heat to a single wrap of heater element wire. They're in the grooves and not touching, pretty certain. Any tips before I give up entirely?
  6. Hi there
  7. I say join, and change it from the inside. First order of business - they should buy a proper domain name rather than relying on Gmail.
  8. Ha! Exactly the same except the M25 was the M56 and the clutch hand heated grip had died. Going to swap the knackered rubber grip for a new one this weeekend and see if I can solder the wire back on.
  9. Morning. A bit shout out to all you chilly bikers out there.
  10. I wondered about this too. When I looked into it, many of them had front facing cameras as well. Edit : https://www.bikerandbike.co.uk/mobile-speed-cameras-guy-inside-van-gives-us-lowdown/
  11. 90 mile round trip commute followed by a blast with the snow foam to keep the crud off. Meantime a new horn had been delivered so fitted it as the dinner was cooking....
  12. Interesting stuff. Now where's that spare can of expanding foam I had knocking around?
  13. Last night I noticed the gritter out. So I dug out the XCP and the low pressure paint sprayer that came with the compressor. Washed and dried the bike, hammerite on the centre stand. The compressor worked well applying the XCP - much better than the manual spray trigger that came with the stuff. It took a while to get it set up right - sitting the bottle in a tub of boiling water to get it running freely first helped. Came out like a fine mist - very little used, but it covered everything well.
  14. Maybe a Yamaha FZ6 Fazer or Honda CBF600?
  15. XJR1300 because I couldn't help myself. Followed by a Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 because it works well as a 2 up tourer and year round motorway commuter. Lots of variables.. What will you be using the bike for? What's the budget? What style of bike do you want? How much do you want to pay for insurance? How confident a rider are you? Do you like spending hours polishing chrome? Will you be carrying a pillion passenger? Do you need luggage? Do you need a screen? What other features would be useful? (Hand guards, heated grips, shaft drive etc.) What sort of performance are you looking for? Inside leg measurement?
  16. Great replies. I think I'll do the bike safe course. My motorway filtering is usually up to around 60mph, depending on density of traffic, lane width, presence of junctions, bends, lorries etc. Also I'm less inclined to filter in the dark or in the wet. (On normal roads I don't break the solid white line or overtake on zigzags.) I adjust my speed depending on the traffic around me, maybe only 10mph faster. Never had a sketchy moment due to speed, but touched the curtain side of a lorry with the handlebar at about 15mph. (No biggie). Most drivers are pretty good about it, particularly in slower moving traffic. I think I'll probably need to calm down the faster stuff. Not because I feel unsafe (I don't) but it can seem a bit anti-social and might not be looked upon too kindly by the powers that be.
  17. As in, did you get to your destination and think, "why didn't I nip through the traffic a bit more", or "that was a bit silly".
  18. Hi, I'm interested in your views on filtering, with particular regards to motorways. A few primers, but feel free to add your own: Up to what speeds do you filter? What are the deciding factors in whether to filter or not? Ever had a sketchy moment you didn't see coming? How do you find other drivers react? Are you over / under ambitious when it comes to filtering? I'll come back in a bit and add my own..
  19. Sounds like the Jewish kids who came home from grandma's raving about the delicious French Chicken they'd been served up. Well, a bit of bacon never hurt anybody.
  20. As far as I know, you can cycle down it if you want.
  21. Hi
  22. I'm not sure the tech will get there. It's up against basic physics. You've two problems: range and charge time. To increase range you'd need to squeeze proportionally more potential energy into the same size box. The laws of thermodynamics would suggest that twice the potential energy leads to half the stability. Supposing all safety issues could be overcome (without crippling the bike with extra weight), it would lead to double the charge time. Of course, you could solve that with faster chargers, but a doubling of charge would require a doubling of the cable thickness. But that only gets you back to where you were before the battery capacity increased. Realistically, you ain't going to get infrastructure that can deliver high enough capacity at quick enough speeds to make it useful in anything other than little city commuters. Battery swap stations might have been a solution, but it seems that nobody was interested in the idea.
