  1. This year I think I will pick a region I have not been to and do that. Plus the pubs should be far more doable than before.
  2. 2018 UK Challenge 100 Scores This is the running score for the 2018 challenge. It will be updated at least once a month. The scoring is 10 points per tag and a bonus 50 points for each completed section (total 150 points). Your name will appear on the list once you start to score. If points are equal, the first to get the points gets the higher place. You can take part as a pillion rider as well. You do not need to use the same bike, only the tag number stays the same. Please make sure you clearly display your number with the tag. Most people use an A4 piece of paper with the number on it. I keep mine in a poly pocket and hang that on the bike with string at each tag. If you get to a tag and you have forgotten your number, be constructive, make it out of twigs or borrow a pen a piece of paper. You cannot get the points without the tag number displayed and a photo which shows you were at the tag with your number. For tags that are hard to get the bike to, be constructive, such as include your helmet in the photo or take a selfie in your gear. Remember to include the number. Please keep a tally of your own score; click on your user name on the top right of the page, then click User Control Panel, then Profile and scroll down to Challenge score. Update that and submit. 3. The alternative to the George and Dragon will be the Tartan Arms? Is that what you mean?
  4. Biker meet suggestions The Bean and Leaf, 6 The Promenade, Gallowgate St, Largs KA30 8BG, which is next to the biker parking at the seafront. Three Villages and Pit Stop Diner, The Pier, Arrochar G83 7AB
  5. Do you mean that there will be more than 10 pubs named and you just need to get ten of them?
  6. Too many people skimp on protective clothing when first starting out. I regularly see a new biker (125cc L plate) near where I work. She has a helmet and jacket, but the rest of what she wears is definitely not armoured.
  7. I would go up the A82 to Inverness and only join the A9 there. But I live near Glasgow and that end of the road I lived in a village on a single track road and it is amazing how many people do not prepare for them or know they will encounter them on their travels. I think autumn would be a good idea. The weather has been good then for the past few years and if you stop at a windy west coast place, the midges will not be too bad.
  8. I had one, they called it a taster lesson, free and it last half an hour. It really helped preparing for the CBT.
  9. I would recommend you do the route anti-clockwise, get the A9 bit over with first and go south down to Ullapool. I camped at Sango Sands, Durness both times, a nice place with great facilities. There are a few petrol stations where the pump can be accessed 24 hours if you pay by card, otherwise assume they will be open 9-5 and less particularly on a Sunday. Places also often still close for lunch and many cafes etc are seasonal and only open about easter time, closing down at the end of the October week (which is the week before the English one). I have heard some anecdotes about dangerous parking as people stop in stupid place because it would make a good photo. There was one about a car club who blocked the Kylesku bridge for a massed photo and they got pissed off at people being annoyed at them! Learn about using single track roads http://www.scotlandinfo.eu/driving-single-track-roads-in-scotland/ The popularity has also seen a rise in the number of traffic cops patrolling the area. Remember Scotland's drink driving limit is half that of the rest of the UK.
  10. She did an idiotic overtake. Which does not make cyclists idiots, just her.
  11. I did lessons with snow and ice about, the instructor will not take you out if it is too bad.
  12. I found the Knox Cold Killer inner glove to be effective. £20. https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/gb/Knox-Cold-Killers-INNER-Gloves-2015/m-17579.aspx?PartnerID=21&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=UnitedKingdom&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2rrRqqzP1wIV6LftCh37wwoxEAQYBiABEgJ0JfD_BwE
  13. I am getting a dash cam for my car, there is a nice little reduction in inurance premium. That is the upsaide to the potential the fottage can be used against you. Insurance companies realised people drive more carefully.
  14. Which is how I kept the rust at bay with my KLE500. The brush has copper coloured bristles, I used Kurust and Hammerite black paint. I hand painted pretty much everything. I even painted the spokes and was surprised at how well they came up. I had the bike for about 4 years and did it twice with a few touch ups in between. Make sure once you paint the chain adjuster slider that you put plenty of copper grease on the inside to stop it welding itself to the swingarm. I painted the exhaust with very high temp paint, but ended up getting a new one as it rusted away. I got the swingarm, pillion foot rest brackets and bash plate powder coated. These are the photos I took to advertise it for sale; I even hand painted the front fork and the black part of the brake disc. The spokes looked like the spokes in your photo, so you can see they come up well with hammerite.
  15. Go for something that is rated by Thatcham or your insurer lists as suitable. That is a good indication it will be at least OK.
  16. I am in the camp of, if there is no visible damage and you cannot feel anything irregular with your fingers (I presume you can take off the inner lining to to check the foam) then keep it.
  17. There should have been an honesty box somewhere.
  18. I would spray my bike with Muc Off, wipe it with a cloth and then rinse with the pressure spray. It was not the best wash in the world, but it kept the worst of the crud at bay.
  19. That is what I used at my lock up, where access to water was a nearby tap. https://www.screwfix.com/p/green-pressure-sprayer-7ltr/51100?kpid=51100&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=Cj0KCQiA84rQBRDCARIsAPO8RFwF3GV11_UvkCayfFK47USS6YFchLFcp8NKQ120HnwthcQV7xv1oY0aAvxGEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CP3JjIvrr9cCFSak7QodZZ8ABw £8 for a 7 litre one which would not be too heavy to easily carry.
  20. A glove that includes Goretex in its making should work. But they tend to be winter gloves. Nickwax glove proof, regular applications helps with cheaper summer gloves.
  21. Waterproof is also windproof which helps keep you warm. I started off with a cheap jacket for safety and would add a waterproof for rain and cold weather. This is £40 and has never leaked http://www.spadaclothing.co.uk/product-detail.php?subcat=8&cat=2&product=55&productname=912%20Unlined%20Jacket
  22. I have been to Luxembourg, as in when the train stopped, I got out and then got back on again.
  23. Will you be washing this bike?
  24. I couldnt find that... but what I did find was a sign I dont understand at all. can you guess? Screen Shot 2017-10-30 at 20.52.32.png Scary tunnel ahead.
  25. 10/10, but guessed one as I have never seen it before. There is an explosives sign entering the Clyde tunnel, or I may have had to guess that one as well.
