  1. If he does return, he should accept he is not the only police officer (or ex police) who posts here, the law is not necessary set in stone, it is open to interpretation and he cannot lay down the law as he sees it and demand agreement as if he is the teacher and we are all his students.
  2. Not yet but now you mention it I suppose I could do In that case, tell them I like almond milk, magic tricks and I rear cheetahs. I want to see what adverts that generates.
  3. Stu, do you make money harvesting and selling our data and likes etc to evil Russians?
  4. There is no sign of the "Lost Distillery Company" at Dumfries House, the tag on the A70 near Cumnock. Suggest changing the tag to Dumfries House as there are plenty of signs for that.
  5. I have a Red Route armoured denim jacket (only second hand now) and jeans which I use with vented summer gloves.
  6. I would suggest a cheap cover from Ghostbikes or Aldi. I find the expensive covers are hard to get on and off due to the elastic they use and they trap damp inside. Cheap covers may let some water in, but they dry our far quicker. The Ghostbikes one I have used gives me about 18 months before I need a new one, which was about the same time as more expensive covers from R&G and Oxford.
  7. It is mandatory if there is a standard 20 mph speed limit sign. It is not mandatory if the sign includes lights to flash and a warning the 20 mph speed limit only applies when the lights flash. What caught me out was at the mandatory limit, on one approach only, there is another sign which flashes up your speed (or should do). During my test we approached the limit from that side and my brain told me that since the first limit did not apply as no lights were flashing, since the speed sign did not react at the second limit, I was OK to keep going there at 30 mph as well.
  8. It is worth noting that the HGV speed limit is 50mph on the A9. Specific legislation was passed to allow that. It helps with the flow of traffic. At least when on a bike good progress can be made and there is loads of safe places to overtake.
  9. It was a road I know well, Dean Park Rd into Cockelsloan. The Renfrew High 20mph is only when lights flash. The Arkelston Primary, a few hundred yards away, is all year round. I still kick myself for that moment of inattention.
  10. http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-top-10s/top-10-places-you%E2%80%99re-most-likely-pass-your-bike-test%E2%80%A6-page-6 "And the 10 worst pass rates: 1: Glasgow (Shieldhall): 50.4% pass rate If you got the impression from our top 10 that everywhere gave 80% plus of their candidates a pass, you couldn’t be more wrong. Glasgow’s Shieldhall test centre only handed out a pass certificate to a fraction over half its candidates in 2017/18. Of 867 module 2 tests, only 437 passed." So, is it the routes, the instructors, the local bike schools? Why so low? Makes me feel a bit better I took 2 goes to pass the Mod 2 there. My fault, I sailed past a primary school at 30 mph, not realising the 20mph was all the time. It was the summer holidays.
  11. IME "waterproofing" sprays etc only extend the time before boots start to leak. The same applies to gloves, jackets and trousers (and tents). If you want actual waterproof, buy Goretex. That is the only thing which will prevent getting wet in heavy, extended rain.
  12. You have spent too long in abroad land. In this country we call them petrol stations. There are a number which now have pay by debit card facilities, so are in effect open 24/7. So petrol is not the issue it was back when I did my first run, on a bike with a 120 mile max range and it was quarter to 5 and I was not quite sure where the petrol station was....or what time it closed.....never again!
  13. I once rode north from Preston staying on the A6 to Carlisle. It made an enjoyable change from the motorway. You could then switch to the A7.
  14. I enjoyed the first episode. It should be called the Classic Motorbike Show. I am trying to think, does he ever review new bikes?
  15. Mine is a goretex Hein Gericke jacket and the gauntlet gloves are goretex IXS. I also have handguards, which deflect the rain way from my hands and in really bad rain, from cuff to elbow really cops the wet. The bike screen mean my arms in general are the most exposed part of me.
  16. It depends on the glove. Gauntlet gloves go over the sleeve, the rest go under.
  17. A coffee and a cake would be fine. I liked his travel shows as well. Got to admire his ability to ride miles on a Saxon. That looked seriously uncomfortable.
  18. I like it and Cole. My rule of thumb is can I see me having a chat over a pint? In Henry's case, yes I can and by all accounts he is a nice guy.
  19. The two roads that have to be used are either the Clydeside Express way or Arkleston Rd as they are the only places in reach of the centre where the speed limit is over 40 mph. You want to be familiar with the Clyde Tunnel, Renfrew Rd, Govan Rd, Sheildhall Rd, Cockels Loan, Dean Park Rd, Glasgow Rd, Hillington Industrial Estate, Berryknowes Rd, Penilee Rd and that is what I can remember off the top of my head.
  20. At least the shower/toilet is going to be more accessible. No bar? Anywhere in the place? Or do you mean we get the room with the tables and can get served through a hatch there?
  21. That's me booked for camping.
  22. My father grew up in the village of Shatterford, where my grandfather was the village policeman, about 15 miles from the site. My grandmother was housekeeper to Sir Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister before she married and moved to Shatterford. We are probably related
  23. Just need to make sure I can get the Friday off, which should be OK.
  24. Nice one, that is my August weekend off! Count me in.
