  1. Sorry Guys....gonna have to cry off this....didn't realise that it's the Extreme Performance Bike weekend at Santa Pod this weekend.....and as I missed it last year I'll be heading over there tomorrow.....Apologies..
  2. OK Ben....see you at the Services around 12 then.....
  3. Need some pics so's I can see what you are getting at......
  4. Deffo be there on the 14th (weather permitting).....looking forward to it.....

    idle jumping

True Stu.....I guess if it's got washers between the airbox and the carbs that'll restrict the flow enough.....

Sounds like you may have an air leak somewhere.......probably not major....so it could take a bit of tracking down. Also if you have taken the baffles out of your exhaust and put a high flow air filter in you may need to re-jet your carbs....
  7. Nice pics Alan........

Glad you got it starting OK..... Smoking from the exhaust could be either running too rich or burning oil. Generally if the smoke is black the mixture is too rich....and if the smoke is blue it's burning oil. If the bike was stood for a while it could be that the piston rings have stuck and you're burning oil.......or the carb is cr*pped up and your running too rich. Check the colour and smell of the smoke to giude you to where the problem could be.....

If you've flooded it you've either got to leave it to dry out or try to start it with the throttle open to the max. Back firing and all that stuff sounds like spark probs to me....igniting unspent fuel erratically.....plug, leads, coil etc. Just my opinion though....
  12. 14th....with a secondary meet on the 20th.....both weather dependant...... As I said above depending on the weather I'd be up for both dates. Tango - 14th & 20th

Is it manual choke? If so, have you got the choke set right? Sounds like you've flooded it.
  14. OOhhh.....bitten by the bug again Alan?.....
  15. OK Guys...are we close to making a decision? Weekend of 20/21 October is ahead at the moment by 1 vote. We could of course do 2 meets....one on the 14th and one on the 20th?....that way we may stand some chance of a decent day for the meet....and if both are OK I'd probably go for both too.....any excuse to get out on the bike....
  16. If the weather is ok I'd be up for it.

    loose ht lead

Misfiring caused by a loose HT lead will make the bike run rough for sure. I'd replace it now if I were you Alex....rather than waiting for it to fail completely....
  18. A woman is walking down the high street when she notices a sign in a pet shop window "Fanny licking Frog - £25) She goes into the pet shop and says "I'd like to see this Fanny licking Frog" So the guy behind the counter says "Bonjour"
  19. Strange symptoms....but glad you got it sorted mate and thanks for taking the time to post up what you found, could well help someone else in the future....
  20. Nice one mate......bit of a bargain.....enjoy it......
  21. Welcome to the Forum Al......... I think at your age it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. Although there may be a mad scramble of people trying to get their tests done before the year end.....so waiting until early in the New Year may work in your favour as it should be a bit quieter then.....
  22. Good luck with the CBT..... A lot of bike gloves have a wiper blade or pad on one of the fingers or thumb on the left hand. Heavy rain is not normally a problem.....heavy spray on the other hand can be.... I've not had my Bell lid steam up yet and I've ridden in some fairly horrible conditions.....but I've heard nothing but good things for Pinlocks....
  23. I've got a couple of Belstaff textile jackets that I bought off eBay and a pair of Hein Gericke textile trousers that so far have held up. The ride to the rally earlier this year was bl**dy wet and the Belstaff jacket and Hein Gericke trousers stayed waterproof....my Sidi black rain evo boots let a very small amount of wet in....but my Spada Enforcer gloves were next to useless!! Just bought some SealSkinz motorbike gloves....but not had chance to try them out yet..... So....there is waterproof kit available....but it's pot luck if you can find it....
  24. Easy.......don't ride in the rain....problem solved....
