  1. $18? for a real one, just buy one. A length of drain pipe will cost more.
  2. You can't remove it completely to get a pass, it is a five seat car, so has to have 5 seat belts by law.
  3. Get it on a good long ride without choke on to clear it out.
  4. This sums it up. Check BOTH plates, and the fact there is a young child in the white car. I rest my case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5rKjJR7O9k
  5. In the multiple times a day I am cut up by tossers, I would say about 80% are private plates. So when I see one I am already taking evasive action. Burn it.
  6. clutch switch wires can normally be connected together at the switch to bypass. It shouldn't make it cut out while riding though.
  7. You disconnected the sidestand switch? It MAY need to be connected to earth or it thinks its permanently down.
  8. Don't use a torque wrench on small nuts and bolts, they aren't sensitive enough and usually have a big long handle for far too much leverage. easy to snap a bolt with one. just use the appropriate sized tool, use small 1/4" drive sockets for most things on a bike and you shouldn't be able to shear a bolt off.
  9. Go for it, you won't regret it! I would suggest asking if there's anything to watch for on a specific job. for example, spark plugs are one of the simplest jobs to do, however, access can be tight on a lot of bikes, and if you pull on the wrench at an angle you can snap them off, which then becomes a major job. They shouldn't be too tight but can be seized in place, if they are stuck, try changing them immediately after a run while it's all hot.
  10. ok, so i think i will buy a green ninja and a red suite... Muppets for me are people who criticise how other people look... And people with black bikes and black suites are power rangers and muppets right? maybe 70% of all motorcycle riders haha All the best. Don't say I didn't warn you. I would love to see a poll on this. You can get away with more outlandish gear on a big sports bike, but as you're doing cbt, am I right assuming you'll have a small bike with matching mighty morphin suit?
  11. wait... You'll be amazed how much movement comes back after a brake, it just takes time.
  12. Sorry, they drive me mad. They are usually just begging. Carolling is meant to be for the benefit of the recipient, not for gain, and they don't even sing carols, it's just rudolf the bloody reindeer. I let them finish their one verse of jingle bells they can remember, say thank you, and shut the door. baaaah humbug
  13. People who wear matching leathers for their bike are known as power rangers and internationally derided as muppets. It's a dark path should you choose to go down it.
  14. I read loads, all sorts, but I love sci fi and fantasy. movies dinghy sailing (currently restoring my 1950s enterprise) PS3 gaming (gta5 and borderlands online mostly) building custom bikes music, I play bass, drums and guitar and have been in various bands and recorded on some albums. For years, I have built and flown rc planes and raced cars.
  15. Don't even get me started on fog lights in the rain/dark!!
  16. Ok, 'gay' as an insult is not really ok any more.
  17. Yes, www.A SHOP .com Means you can see if they actually it and EVERYTHING!
  18. I had this and got all worried, did some research and found out that almost every bike has oil level sensor, not pressure. Just check out what is on your bike.
  19. Starting to look like me and the missus will be able to get the sprogs looked after and make it up for the day on saturday. Be good to catch up if we do.
  20. It is the way it goes. however, done right you end up with a bike which you know is fully sorted. there is no such thing as a cheap old bike. Any old 'bargain' bike you need to budget for: tyres battery fork seals headstock bearings wheel bearings engine service (oil filters and plugs) OFTEN fork stanchions or rechroming chain and sprockets. 6mm and 8mm helicoil kits. Bikes which are promised as in good rideable nick, very rarely are. You may get a few months use out of it without work but you will find most of these components will fail within a short space of daily use. This is not being negative, it is just years of experience of buying cheap bikes because I didn't have any money, then doing them up but spending more than I could have got a good one for in the beginning. However, you need to be able to afford a good one to start with, otherwise it is a good route to getting on two wheels and learning to do the work yourself. Also, there are lots of bikes for sale for strong money which still have all these issues. I won't pay top dollar for an old bike unless I can see all these things have been sorted already.
  21. If it's the steel pivot seized in the alloy body, strip it completely and boil it in water for about 30 minutes, it will eat its way in between the alloy and steel and free it up. I have had success with this method in the past, but obviously it will leave it all full of water so will need thoroughly cleaning out. It will do it without damaging it though as it should come apart without being forced.
  22. Thanks guys. Stu, that is handy but doesn't give any info about what it is or what it's for. Which ecu etc. We have decided to go webers as we have a pair of dcoe40's from the crossflow, and we'll run through an aftermarket system like nodiz or omex. Seems the simplest and most reliably figured out way? Gradually putting the required parts together now. The sump is a pain in the butt, some of the companys that do shortened ones have stopped due to lack of donor sumps to convert. Think a sierra 1.8cvh is the way to go. looks like it bolts straight on.
  23. Hi guys and gals. Been given the job of fitting a zetec silver top from a 96 mondeo into a friends westfield. We have a pair of twin webber to use but would really like to use the ford injection etc for reliability. Does anyone know the ins and outs of the ford system, it is fairly self contained, but a lot of the wiring goes into the main car loom and we're not sure how much of it we can use. Anyone know where to get a good diagram showing what bits to use and what to cut out? Thanks Matt
