Gerontious Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Its funny how things turn up.Ive been looking at a map of the Rhone Alps... This area of France. https://goo.gl/maps/1d2DgTS27XB2and on on of my route maps came across this place.. marked, but I had never heard of it before.. sheltered life and that. Combe Laval...So.. obviously i looked it up with the google machine and voila (as they say)Its a 'Balcony road".. carved into the cliff side.. with in places a 40 metre drop. (1,200ft+) and all thats between you and the drop is a little wall thats not much more than knee high. in some places its so narrow only one car can pass at a time.Wunderbar (as they say) read about it here with more nerve racking photos: http://tinyurl.com/k56k4pvJust thought i would share this in case anyone is heading for that area of France and wants some extra excitement. raesewell Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 My wife would have a fit if she thought I was taking her along a road like that. To be honest I'm not sure I would be keen on my own Quote

Gerontious Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 (edited) I would... but only from North to South. if a car is coming from the other direction then I would much rather be pushed up against the cliff face than against that little wall. makes me want to lie down in a dark room and do breathing exercises just thinking about it.Theres another very similar road not far from there.. that was finally closed in 2005 after the number of deaths got totally out of hand (and a bypass tunnel had been built) With many more 'cave - tunnels/overhangs' and due to its orientation.. in places it hardly ever got any direct sunlight.. so was almost permanently damp and an ideal environment for algae and moss on the road surface. lethal.Read about it here: http://tinyurl.com/mh6shun Edited April 2, 2017 by Gerontious Quote
rob m Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I'd have a go at it, I mean what's the worst that could happen? Quote
Lateralus Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I did something similar once on mountain bikes. Rather hairy at times! Quote
