Mickly Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Yes I do understand how it must feel living so close to such a cesspit of a City . That's why I'm so glad that I live in a small village called Earlsdon . With its own newspaper , busy high street , and leafy avenues , Earlsdon is very much a separate community . Hahahaha ‘cmon @fastbob Earlsdon is part of the Coventry conurbation.Having a few students & hippies drinking Chai at pavement cafes does not make it a village I was talking tongue in cheek as I often do but I love living here . And talking of cafés , could I recommend the excellent Emily's Cafe that is run by my friend's daughter Emily . https://www.coventrycafe.top/ This really is something special . Why would I do that, when I could “go to Macdonald's is the coffee which is reasonably priced and has a great flavour .”?Seriously, I’ll look in next time I’m around that part of the world. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 A new item on my bucket list.Walk into Emily's Cafe... and say.....I'm on a mission from Bob. Quote
Bianco2564 Posted February 4, 2020 Author Posted February 4, 2020 fastbob did you see Ikea is closing its Zombie town branch? That and Machine Mart were the only two reasons I'd venture into the twilight zone. Quote

Yes , I found out an hour ago . I don't know what will become of the building because it's so purpose built . I rarely bought anything of value there but the view from the restaurant was interesting even if it was a view of Coventry . Quote
S-Westerly Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I'd say IKEA closing down must be a plus for Coventry. Every time my wife drags me into one of those anterooms to hell I lose the will to live. Quote

I reckon it’ll be converted into Student housing - just like is happening to everything else in Cov. Quote

I reckon it's so purpose built as an IKEA that it's going to be very hard to re purpose it . Too many big spaces , no windows , and the wrong shape . I think some kind of Adventure , escape room , leisure complex might be more likely . A friend suggested an arts center or even a cinema Multi Plex. I will watch with interest . They could just leave it unlocked and let the homeless people colonise it . Quote
