husoi Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Hello and welcome. The solution for rust in fuel tank is a tricky one.You can try some rust converter, just pour the content of the full bottle and rotate the tank to make sure all the sides are coated.I don't know how petrol reacts to this product so worthwhile testing it fist on some metal surface. The other issue is that once rust contaminated the inside of the tank you won't be able to remove it easily.Other than that I would suggest a new tank and solve the problem for good.On the other hand, if you're good at mechanics and welding, you can always disassemble the tank use a small grinder with an abrasive disk to remove the rust completely and weld it back again, but by the time you add all the hours and paintwork you probably going to spend more than just getting a good second hand tank and you won't have a tank with a thinner wall. Mississippi Bullfrog Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Hello. Re. the tank, don't do what a mate did back in the day. About '76 it was. He mixed some epoxy, poured it into the tank and then swilled it round to coat the inside. He then spent weeks trying to get the bike started. He'd only gone and forgotten to drill out the fuel feed before refitting the tank. onesea Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 I used POR4 years later still good. I have used FERTAN but not for fuel tanks and in other uses I swear by it...Read your reviews and take your chance..https://www.frost.co.uk/fuel-tank-repair/ Quote
