The canal breached at a section near my old home town, and has shut down the roads. Quite a serious thing when you see it, a 100m length or more has just simply ceased to exist, and it drained the canal into the nearby countryside, also grounding the boats that were moored up. Speaking to some locals, this wasn't the first time it happened, the same spot failed back in the 70s and took 2 years to fix! No doubt Peel will find a way to make it take double the time, and cost 5 times more than anyone would reasonably guess. That's a little like the council here. The local park is always flooded in the winter. When they extended the sea defences, it was a multi-million pound job. The company doing it costed doing the park for £10,000. As it's right next to the sea defences. And they would have all the machinery there. The council declined. Now it's going to be £80,000 to fix. And in the meantime we are still left with flooded park. As they haven't got the money. 2 1 Quote
Popular Post S-Westerly Posted January 3 Author Popular Post Posted January 3 Today I got introduced to a new level of hell. Until now I thought IKEA was the worst shopping experience I could undergo but no! There is worse! Today I was dragged into T K Maxx, I thought I'd died and was in the vestibule to hell. I was bag carrying for the boss and she wanted new socks. Apparently this place is good for that kind of thing. For being a good bag carrier and being more or less quiet I was allowed some cider afterwards. I needed it. 3 7 Quote

Simon Davey Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I don't mind it being cold, I can hack five or six degrees, but wet, meh.... Even in the summer I only go out if it's dry. Quote
