No room for mole grips, unfortunately - I think I'm going to have to cut a section of skirting board out to make some room to work, and then try to get it back together before the carpet guys arrive.

How about gripping the pipe from the inside?

Circlip pliers might do or even a big enough bolt or thread cutter perhaps. You only need enough purchase to overcome the force of pushing the fitting on.

If you have no joy with the sensible suggestions here I’ve found milliput the dogs for emergency repairs that I’ve never had to go back to. The fact it’s used for underwater repairs still blows my tiny mind.

The second link pdf has the instructions for plumbing repairs. Amazing stuff. Might be worth sticking some over whatever you do anyway.

Anyone complained they’re cold yet! 🥶

I come across sticky on wonder stuff at least once a year, it's always cause it's failed, funny thing is no one ever owns up to being the one who put it there.

First job Monday morn, leak on someone's fecking heating, pushfit gone wrong.

Manifold under floor, one pipe is scored so been dripping from day one, the other was bent stupid so was putting stress on o ring so it joined in with the leak party. Because of the stupid way the pipe was bent it's caused the release collar to not release which ment pulling the thing apart and rendering the manifold scrap.

Non of these issues are down to the fittings just the idiots that fitted the boiler who said it was nothing to do with boiler so go away.

All for the sake of one 10mm elbow and checking the pipe.

Yup on a national scale, folk didn't want to pay call-out fee they were threatened with as they would have been charged that and the repair, WTF is the point of paying boiler protection fee and then being charged a call-out fee, put your money in the bank folks.

The mother and father in law was paying £35 a month for boiler protection although it did cover other stuff

I questioned it and they said its an old boiler and they have to use them every now and then! the cost of parts was extra but the call outs was "free"

I informed them that they should cancel it and use the money for a new boiler with a 10 year guarantee which is what they did

Had one issue with it and ideal came straight out and it was due to a loss of pressure caused by the father in law

But they noticed the wireless stat was an older model that was discontinued and they replaced all that while they was there

All done, and no leaks!

I bought some push-fit brass couplers this morning, but the pipework was so tight that the only angle I could get to assemble the repair fouled one of the joints (the one up by the skirting board, naturally) and it jammed half way in. B*llocks! They're not demountable, so the only option was to chop it all out and take a different approach.

With time ticking on until the carpet fitters arrived I gave in and called an emergency plumber. Their idea of 'rapid response' was later this week, so I called the guys who do our lab plumbing. Two of them were round in under 20 minutes, and after a couple of hours of swearing we got it done between the three of us. They had some fancy 90 degree spanners for tightening compression fittings under the skirting, so that's what we went for. It required a bit of re-sculpting of the joist to get it to fit, so I expect the floor will collapse next...

They left at 11.15h, just as the bloody carpet fitters were arriving! That caught us on the hop a bit, so I was refitting the floorboards as Vic was emptying the last few bits out of the room. Now I'm on the sofa with a mug of tea and a thumping headache.

Still, it'll all be worth it once it's done, and hopefully our eldest will love his new room. Thanks so much for all your help folks - you guys are the best! :thumb:

Sometimes it's best to just call someone 😁

Too right! It was such an awkward and tight spot to work in that at one point I thought I should have called a gynaecologist rather than a plumber...

All reminds me of the first time I came home from school to use my own front door key...

Opened front door heard a knocking noise followed by language (actually it was repeated in 2 languages but I understood both) a 11 year old boy should not hear, know or be that familiar with. Being far to familiar with such language I shut the door and took my friends offer of dinner up.

Yup as I opened the door mum put a nail through a pipe, took said nail out of pipe and was left grasping said pipe as I merrily went on my way...

She had to let it run while ran down to the stop cock and called her pet plumber...

Stop cock in that house was in the down stairs toilet between toilet and boiler, I had used it once or twice before...

I had a mate who decided to nail hardboard to his wooden floor to level it out........yes, it was the very last nail that went through the heating pipe.....
