Older biker Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Hello folks. Are any of you folks insured with a company that doesn’t charge for modifications that are either, non performance enhancing, doesn’t increase the value of the bike, or is just a modification for aesthetic reasons? The reason I ask is I wanted to change my standard exhaust for a Delkevic tri 320mm stainless steel non performance enhancing exhaust.I called the insurance company (HastingsDirect ) to inform them of my intention only to be told it would cost me an extra £21.00.When I asked why? They told me that it was a modification to the original.I stated it was non performance enhancing and just being changed for aesthetic reasons.Reply again. It’s a modification.I know some will ask why I bothered informing them.Well a few people told me if they weren’t informed it could invalidate the policy. So, any companies out there that don’t charge for such modifications? Mickly Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 It’s not the modification to the bike they are charging for, it’s the change to the statement of fact in the policy. It is common for insurance companies to charge a fee to change anything on the policy, whether it affects the premium or not. Bennets, changed my headers with a Delkevic headers, done away with cat/muffler , couple of months back, , rung them and told them , all good , no charge Quote
manxie49 Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 x 2 for Bennett's, Akrapovic exhaust and headers and nothing extra to pay on the insurance. Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Ditto with a MIVV end can and Bennett's. Quote

But the policy wasn’t becoming active until today 17th and I called yesterday the 16th.So there shouldn’t have had to have been a change if the policy didn’t become active till the 17th surely. Quote

You’ve been done !!Well not yet because I declined to pay the aforementioned £21.00 as I hadn’t yet bought the exhaust.I’ll probably buy it and go with a different insurer next time but ask whether there would be a loading for having an aftermarket exhaust. Bennett’s may be getting another customer next year. Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Wow they are taking the michael.Another one for Bennetts. They have a list of mods that are already included in the price. Exhausts being one of them. Quote
