That's what I like about my XJ6 - I decide how much "fun factor" I want by staying either below 6000 or above 8000 rpm. No need for any mode switches between "sport" and "relaxed". Quote

Keeper96 Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 I can see that being true, the couple of times I had an empty stretch I took it up past 6000 and it definitely livened up a lot! 2 Quote

Yup it needs to be hammered it's not the liveliest engine, even in its time it was a tad tame. Quote
Keeper96 Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 Even less lively now I’ve discovered it’s origin I serviced it a couple of weeks ago and the plugs I was given where different to what it had in so I researched the engine number and it’s from the first gen gsxf so ‘88 - ‘97 1 Quote

At some point I can see myself buying one but at the minute budget is dictating most things for me! Same here, I ended up going for an 05' SV650. Older bike, yet similar power and torque at a 1/3rd of the price of an MT-07. Quote
Keeper96 Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 (edited) Well took it for a decent run today over towards Stanhope and edmunbyers. it pulled well up to 6000 then I was changing up from there. I was perfectly happy with everything until it broke down on the way home, if interested see my thread in the pit stop section https://themotorbikeforum.co.uk/forum/topic/35817-cutting-out/?tab=comments#comment-534380 it’s now got me thinking was I shifting at 6000 because I wanted to or was the bike going flat at 6000 making me shift? Im not sure.... Edited December 15, 2020 by Tiggie Thought I'd help out and add the link to the pitstop thread 2 Quote

Got the bike insured and booked in for it’s mot tomorrow so fingers crossed it passes! Then I’m planning a few small journeys around the local area just to get used to it as it’s a sports tourer and I’ve been learning on a mt07 hopefully I’ll see some of you out and about in the future! Congrats.. enjoy the new freedom Quote
jedibiker Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Yeah that bike comes alive after 6000 revs. Also, I know people say to not aim for a far ish destination in case you get tired, but if your lessons were like mine, you were riding for 3 to 4 hours each time. Which is a big run for a day out. But it is different on your own and feels great. I was off to the coast within a week, Quote
mthinesy Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Congrats on the pass! I have my MOD2 next week. Looking forward to it, but just as nervous about it as my MOD1. My examiner for the MOD1 was nice enough. The riding school is well known there, so there was a little bit of banter. Can help you relax a bit. Quote
