I understand the durability argument,   though I have a usb power supply for that.

What are the usability benefits over a decent phone app? As advertised above  not entirely compelling. 😬

On the downside, I see not only cost but also more handlebar clutter and additional faff factor.

the power supply is the weak point of a phone .. ie. water ingress and damage to connection point..

by the last comment i take it you keep your phone in your pocket and use earphones .. sounds like hard work.. incidentally ear phones are illegal in certain countries..

Strange that we haven't anybody going for a handwritten map with notes and modern things like post-it...😂

I still take a local Michelin map for a p[articular area when touring abroad, good for seeking interesting sites and routes, sat nav is also used to track my routes.

They don't stay stuck at 90 😁

Waze was great in the USA, lots of users and warnings for speed traps and accidents, even the wife started giving updates on it.

Tend to use phone on bike, sat nav in car cause its built in, also tend to use it for the end of the journey when you just want it to get you to destination.

An answer to this on the ADV forum from a Swiss member a few years ago has always stuck with me... not that its ever been an issue as I have had a GPS on bikes for much longer than I've had a smart phone.

said Swiss guy had a crash.. came off his bike on one of the passes and broke his hip... couldn't move,  nor could he use his phone to call for help. can you guess why?

he was found.. 3 hours later.

spelling police alerted.. had to respond.
