Hi everyone,

I want to get a jump start battery to charge up and recharge my bike - without the battery being connected to the mains.

Right now I use a charger that you connect to the mains.

The battery in my Yamaha Vittie is wedged in a small space behind a plastic panel. It's a nightmare to get in and out and the screws for the panel are also a nightmare. So I have the crocodile clips connected to the battery and the cable connected to the crocodile clips comes out through a hole I cut in the panel and there's a connector where I can connect my charger (see picture).

Do you guys know if any jump start batteries allow that kind of connection? Or do they only connect direct with crocodile clips?

Thanks

Eric

I would of thought the wires where to small to allow sufficient current through them to jump start it.

Charging happens at afew amps, jump starts happen at 10's of amps.

You can add a boost pack and leave it connected for 15 mins or so to build up charge inthe battery ( this is actually what you are meant to do with boost packs ) just DO NOT Place ANY load on the system with the pack attached ie DO NOT attempt to start or even turn ignition on .

Disconnect pack then attempt start

Hi and welcome to the forum

I would be more inclined to look in to why the bike is not recharging the battery once its running

Thanks. That's the procedure I follow when charging. Do you know if any boost packs connect to the type of connection I use?

Hi, it's a small battery and it goes flat if I don't drive the bike for a  few weeks which can happen

Thanks a lot. I think me saying "jump start" was a misleading. Most of the chargers which are not connected come up as "jump start" when you're searching. I'm not looking to jump start the bike, just recharge the battery without having to connect the charger to the mains. In other words, I want to charge the charger with the mains and then charge the scooter battery with the charger. Does that make more sense?

Then I think you have an issue somewhere like either a buggered battery or a small drain like and alarm or immobiliser thats sapping the power from the battery

It should last more than a couple of weeks I would say at least 3 months

Can you connect to another fully charged battery, leave it for a whilst?

Thank you very much indeed. The thing I need to figure out is how to get the two pin to connect to my charging device(https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8000mAh-Portable-Car-Jump-Starter-Booster-Jumper-Box-Power-Bank-Battery-Charger/274402718118?_trkparms=aid%3D1110010%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.DISCCARDS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200220090753%26meid%3D30f130be0bfe460bb675d2a7ae59d7fc%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D293931727559%26itm%3D274402718118%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3Ddefault%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982). It only accepts the two blue circular pins (circled in the picture). I have been trying to figure out what they are called but don't know where to start finding the answer to that question. Do you know what they're called? Thanks again

You could buy a connector as above, use volt meter to check +&- then put spade connectors on of right colour and drop into battery clips.

HOWEVER depending on how the battery pack works it will probably put to much power down small wires risking melting them. So put in line fuse in system some bright person on here might be able to tell you how to control the current a resistor is one answer but how big and how is beyond me...

The effects of to much current in wires can be bad, very bad...

Look in RC model shops. This connector type is called EC3.
