mrgadgetman Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I'm doing a project at college about the stigma around motorbikes. And the positivity around it. So could any of you share what you think is good about riding? Thanks Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 For me it is several things: First is that my circle of friends share the passion for riding motorcycles. Then I enjoy machinery and working with my hands. Riding a motorcycle well is a skill you never stop learning so every ride is a learning experience. Riding a motorcycle takes a lot of concentration so I find it the best way of switching off and getting my mind straight. Then you've got the wonderful countryside within reach which on a bike you engage with much more than in a car. Youc an stop and just take in the view wherever you find inspiration. Plus it's just fun to do. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 It's fun. It's stress relieving and makes boring journeys interesting especially if you go on roads less travelled. You can do it alone or with mates and its a continuous learning activity. Quote
KiwiBob Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Its cheaper and less maintenance than a horse! Quote

Riding provides a unique experience of movement without effort, with nothing between you and your surroundings. There is little insulating you from the sights (and smells, occasionally). There is, in my opinion, no better way to tour, there is an intimacy (sorry, got all touchy feely there) with your surroundings not available by any other motorised form of travel. It’s a solitary pursuit which occupies the mind, requiring constant and almost unwavering attention, making it a great distraction from whatever bothers you away from riding. And, just now and then, there’s the rush from the speed and acceleration (Cadwell Park is my preferred venture for that). It often has a social aspect. I have a number of long-standing friendships as a result of riding. There’s stuff around skill development which has already been mentioned, too. Quote
Robik Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 Good things: - Communication and nodding to other motorcycists. - The feeling of being at one with the road and machine. - It's Economical way to travel, a bit annoying me when I see one driver in a 400litre truck/4x4/showoff-mobile. The list goes on... Quote
