onesea Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I was hoping for clarity. https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/advice/biking-tips/where-can-you-park-motorcycles-rules They even give a link to a website: http://www.parkingforbikes.com/ Which didn’t work for me. The answer is it’s still a mess…. 1 Quote
manxie49 Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Far too much ambiguity and confusion, why is nothing ever simple! I parked in a bay once, marked as "cycles only". I was there literally for ten minutes. When I returned to the bike, a really abrupt and stroppy traffic warden came up and told me if I park there again he'll ticket me. I argued that the sign said cycles only and I was riding a motor cycle. The sign did not differentiate between motor or peddle powered. He couldn't give me a rational answer, and obviously took umbrage at being challenged, all he kept saying as he walked away was "you've been warned". Personally, had he have given me a ticket, I would have challenged it and appealed, I think mostly you're wasting your time though. I wonder if they make it so confusing for reason. Quote

If I remember right the V5 for a motorbike classes it as a cycle. One of our local hospitals has always had a designated space for motorbikes. Then they introduced a new parking system with barriers to let cars in and out. The problem is the barriers didn't recognise the weight of a motorbike so wouldn't open. And the designated motorcycle bays were inside the barriers. The security guards came up with an ingenious and very high-tech solution. They chopped three feet off the end of the barriers. Our hospital is the same you have to press the buzzer on the gate and the security guy let's you out . Now they have extended the hospital and there is no motorbike parking! Quote

daveinlim Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Bike parking in London is a minefield. Some places you can park anywhere for free, some are free but only in designated bays, some you can only park in a baby and you have to pay. Often signs are confusing or just not there. I've been using an app called London bike bays and it's been quite helpful. 2 Quote

It's a great app, use it often - wish it was U.K. wide https://londonbikebays.co.uk/map/ Have to remember to pay the token £1 if in Westminster Borough though! 1 Quote
