Motorbike Insurance for EU license

Hi there,

I have a Mutt 125 and I have been riding since 2009, and in London since 2019. I need to renew my insurance in 10 days and it went from £390 to £780 which sounds insane to me as I haven't changed anything and I have an additional year of NCD. I have tried any comparison sites and called insurances directly and they all gave me similar or more expensive quotes. I have been told it could be that's because I have an European A1 license and they have changed some schemes but I have asked also to try to do a simulation with a British license (because I could get it exchanged) and it was only a £40 difference. I don't know what else to do, any advices? Thank you!

Something is wrong there, surely. Everyone's insurance is going up, but only a small amount, it's not doubling.

If you're getting just a £40 reduction for a simulation with a UK licence, then the person who told you it's the EU licence isn't giving you correct information.

Are you using the same address as before? Riding the same bike? Doing the same job? Got married or divorced? - there's got be some thing somewhere that's pushed the premium up so high.

If all else fails, you'll have to call the insurer and ask, but you'll probably just get fobbed off with "probably" and "perhaps" by someone who has no more idea how insurance works than you or I do.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought! Nothing changed, same address, same bike, same job, same marital status. When I called them they just said that the scheme that I was in is no longer available, that's all.. and I have searched another insurance for days now but can't find anything else cheaper than £780, insane! I'm not sure what else to do...

You're saying you live in London.

That's the main reason your insurance is so expensive. The risk of theft is higher

Hi Nads, what’s your experience of a Mutt 125 and which one do you have?

Looking to do my CBT  and really like the look of their retro bikes.

Thanks!

As they've not been back on since June it's unlikely your getting to find out.

Yep everything is going against you.

Eu license.

London resident, the highest risk not even considering thief.

A1 license with a Chinese made bike, the older the more risk there is to them.... dont ask me why the list is sooo long!!!

no security measures?

dependants.

single, male, young?

status.

Try a specialised insurance broker.

single.

yada yada...

under writers are the most anal unlikable as*holes.
