Other than going up to Sheriffmuir (very steep and constant, thought I'd have to push it at one point!) The little CB didn't miss a beat. Perfect bike for the roads and riding I done today. Looking forward to moving to a bigger bike but now considering what I need from one... Stickin oot, man ! And you got a smashing day for it too ! Quote

Both to further settle the missus in, but mainly to test the new reg rec. Arrived at cafe, removed seat and had a suspicious sniff around. No smell of burning. Reg was hot as expected, but not too hot to touch. Arrived home without incident and I no longer look at that right seat cowl with deep suspicion. She is feeling pleased as punch with herself. I think she even enjoyed the ride out. Not strawberry fields I hope! Quote
JTDG Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Yesterday evening weather was nice (had been raining all day) been riding the bike a week so decided to venture out onto the A75 near me. Absolutely loved it, only downside was if anybody has drove the A75, it’s single carriageway but has intermittent overtaking areas which are all uphill. I am a relatively big guy, and my cb125f isn’t broken in yet. On the uphills it really realty struggled (speed dropped from 60-45) I really thought if it went on any longer I was going to have to get out and push it up. I didn’t pick it for speed, and it’s not often I will go on that road. But I got some very angry horns beeped at me . Also the amount of dead insects on my visor!!! 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 (edited) @JTDG People will see a smaller vehicle, or even a caravan or horse box and just instantly want to get past. I think a lot of us would ride smaller bikes, if it wasn't for the pressure from faster traffic. Also, once you've had a taste of a faster bike, there's no going back. Thing is, 45 isn't actually that slow. Glad you survived though! Edited August 14, 2024 by Simon Davey Quote

To help keep reg cooler as a back up rather than solely relying on is to wire up a simple small, cheap pc fan to cool or extract heat off the surface of the reg if you mount it on or near it, might just keep it happier and long lasting? She as the bike or the wife pleased as punch? lovely looking bike. Seems like your poor luck with it found another vfr owner to haunt, saw one the other day being attended to by the AA van…. Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Out last night in pouring rain. All my kit kept me dry, none of it Gore Tex. Except my new Richa Gore Tex gloves....they leaked like a sieve. I didn't buy them for the Gore Tex, just because they fitted me best. But even so, a bit disappointing. 2 Quote

Don't goretex give a lifetime guarantee for waterproofing? Be worth asking what the hell as my winter Richa / Gore Tex have kept my hands dry in the winter monsoons. 1 Quote
Throttled Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 A rare run in the sun, and no winds. Is this going to be the only time this year I use my armoured denims? 1 Quote

So I've never bothered to act on the guarantee. But these gloves are new and I still have the receipt so I'll take them back to J&S and see what they say. I was very careful to get my overjacket sleeves over the gloves so it wasn't water running into them from my arms. 1 Quote

I too am a more generously built guy.. and I've discovered hills and the cb125f with me on it don't go well.. The trick is not to care about others as you need to ride your ride, you can only piss with the cock you've got and the cb125f's cock shrinks on hills! I love mine and will be fine if I cant afford DAS in next year or so as I'll alter my riding ambitions and keep doing the roads I do and pushing further out on bigger rides on roads suited to the bike (plenty in Scotland, especially down where you are..). BTW, most I've had out of mine is 64mph but I find the sweet spot (road depending) is between 30 and 50... Fun factor outweighs speeding tickets for me! 3 Quote
muldoon74 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Took mine to work today.. 20 mile round trip.. It's just to get out and use it.. Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I took my Richa gloves back to J&S, they have to send them to Richa to be checked. We shall see. The waterproof overtrousers I bought from Richa also leaked so I'm not overly impressed with their stuff. 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 My Richa typhoon one-piece rainproof suit wasn't. Quote
S-Westerly Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 The only Richa stuff I have is a pair of winter gloves which are Gore Tex blah blah. They are my warmest gloves and have stayed dry on the inside in the worst weather. Made in Vietnam and that's all I can say. I really like waterproof gear to be waterproof as that's its entire purpose. I have a pair of allegedly waterproof overtrousers which aren't which really annoyed me. Quote
ColinWB Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I had a week baking in the sun in St Neots, so missed the bike for that week. I put that to rights today with a trip up to Aberfoyle via Erskine Bridge, Queens View/The Whangie. Passing this I had to give the car in front plenty of distance to avoid second hand consumption of weed . From Aberfoyle I went over Duke's Pass with its twist and turns on the ascent and descent and on to Callander where I took a wee detour along the southern shore of Loch Venachar towards Invertrossachs. Back through Callander and along the A84 to Stirling where I went round the bottom of the rock the castle sits on to join the A811 to head back to Queens View. It was windy and gusty all the way but the A811 was the worst, most exposed part of the trip, my wee 125 got a bit twitchy occasionally. I got to practice my emergency stop at the A811/A809 junction when a bus turned left out the junction and strayed over to my side briefly, I moved to the left side of my lane to avoid the bus and spotted the left hand drive campervan turning right on the far side of the bus straight into my path. It was a Westfalia Nugget conversion, an apt name for that driver who was not looking into the junction. Anyway, my emergency stop worked. Every ride is a lesson. 3 Quote

Cheers Simon, I'm really enjoying being on the bike. Need to remember I'm a learner, though and not get too carried away with the thrills 1 Quote

Simon Davey Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Went out as it was getting dark, fancied a blap, and wanted to test my new brake lines. Front brake's a lot better, but after filling up and starting my way up to the A14, I actually turned around, because I was getting cold arms. Didn't wear a jumper because I was hot when I left, next time I'll take one with me. Good ride though. 2 1 Quote
