Been looking at doing some off-road with my adv bike, and  want something with slightly bigger sole but still very protective.

Found out that a lot of boots are not very protective at all!!

I can vouch for the Gortex TCX Baja’s

I’ve had a couple of pairs of the TCX brand and have found them to be the comfiest brand out of all others I’ve owned. I’ve had SIDI, Puma, and A stars and others I’ve forgotten.

Have a good look at the "Forma" adventure boots in Sportsbike shop.

I have had a pair for about 3 years now and can`t fault them.

Cheers

So I have these but my friend had a down yesterday, and broke his ankle. The boot did almost nothing..

I used to use the Tech 7 Enduro boots (Alpinestars) when I was off roading, they were 1st rate, loads of protection plus they were pretty comfortable to wear.  I found I had to go up half a size for a perfect fit.

Depending on the nature of the off no boot is going to provide 100% protection. Bend things the wrong way or drop a heavy weight on it and something is going to go.

my one pennies worth, its all in the fit first and foremost!

i like the look of tcx and rsts but they dont fit me or the wife, they're too narrow and thin particularly for me, i have frog feet 😅.

the sidis just fit us both really well and last for ages (my sidis vertigos i think?) are 15 years old, 5 bikes and well over 50plus thous miles old and still going and the day i HAVE to replace them ill be upset...the wifes ones are newer at 5years old (with less care and attention then me) were wearing 5 times longer than others she had and they werent cheap like the alpinestars....

I’m surprised you say the TCX are a narrow fit. I’ve found the opposite with the Sidi’s. I find those are a narrow fit and very uncomfortable.

Many years ago when I used to do a lot of mountaineering the general rule was UK or German boots were wide, Italian boots are narrow. Maybe they still are but with who knows who owns what brands and the odds are that half of them are now made in China, God knows!

Have a look at Altberg. They make the boots used by the Police bikers  and also for many of the military.  Im on my second pair  fir have lasted 10 years and still OK but need a new sole. Never leaked  wear them all year round.

You can get them to measure your feet to make sure you get a good fit.

My tallish boots are Daytona and I had to get the extra wide fitting. Dead comfortable and fully waterproof even in the worst weather.
