muldoon74 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Just booked MOD1 and MOD2 for end A1 (125cc) for end of March and early April. Couldn't get same test centre on same day. But they're within 4 days and test centres aren't too far. One is local, within 10 mins, the other is about 20/25 mins away. I was saving for DAS but won't be able to do it before CBT runs out end of April, work family and all that shite, (first was 2003, second was 2 years ago April,.. Bollox to doing it again when I have 1.5 years experience on my own bike and am capable of passing both MODS..) Assuming I pass MOD1/2 I won't need to do Hazard perception (Hazard perception passed again a couple of weeks ago..) or CBT again so saving myself over £130... Not the way I wanted to do things but best for my circumstances as they are. 7 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted February 26 Posted February 26 All the best with it. Will be nice to get the L Plates off. 1 Quote

Mainly thinking of saving money though. £180 for CBT again.. Bollox to that. Still won't be doing motorways on my wee CB125F though.. Too many w**kers. 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Good luck with those tests @muldoon74 That'll be just in time for summer 1 Quote
bud Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Good luck with the tests. Can you do the A1 on your own bike then? I presume you can. 1 Quote
bonio Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Yeah good luck. Remember your lifesavers (and cancel your indicators of course). 3 Quote

muldoon74 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 More worried about the MOD1 tbh.. first couple of months biking I’d go to an industrial estate near me and take 10/15 mins at beginning or end of ride to practice u turns etc but that’s slipped away a bit.. so I’ll be watching a few mod1 videos and taking note of requirements to practice in lead up to it. 3 Quote
bonio Posted February 27 Posted February 27 All the best! Bear in mind that, during the figure of 8 and the slalom, you can go as wide as you like - there are no extra points for staying near the cones. 1 1 Quote

Good to know, cheers… I think I read the width for u turns etc is 7 meters… measured that with my tape measure. It’s ridiculously wide! just watch me fail on that now.. 4 Quote

muldoon74 Posted Friday at 21:55 Author Posted Friday at 21:55 Update: Failed it. When asked to go to stat point after speed trap test on my U-turn (actual U-turn was fine) to get into position I didn't take as much space as needed and just rushed it. Put my foot down to steady myself and knew I'd bolloxed it up. Next up Emergency stop. Caught my right foot awkwardly so didn't use rear break and also fingers slipped off front break a wee bit and therefore opened up throttle. Result: Please go to main building where you were instructed to park up when you arrived.. No hazard avoidance, straight up fail. Worst part is now my CBT has ran out and all training schools around here (and within about 25 miles) are now fully booked until mid June or July or are ridiculous expensive. So my wee CB is grounded.... 5 Quote
Simon Davey Posted Friday at 22:22 Posted Friday at 22:22 Sorry to hear that @muldoon74 That's a hard pill to swallow, don't give up. 1 Quote
Bender Posted Friday at 22:51 Posted Friday at 22:51 That's a bugger, I failed mod 1 it happens, I passed mod 2 with no faults, didn't have the terrible booking issues that we appear to have now though 1 Quote

Not giving up, just have a few financial issues and ideas to sort now. Should I sell bike, pay it off an use remainder for deposit on new bike and CBT resit? Do I keep it (preferred) and search for a cancellation CBT (has to be a weekend, work requires 2 weeks notice for annual leave) and pay over the odds for it? I need a bit of luck.. Not had much in life TBH but could do with a wee bit.. I just want to get out on my bike again. Yes being 125cc it struggles (as I have intonated to in other threads) but bimbling about and learning skills (apart from putting foot down and bawsing up emergency stop obviously).. CB125F is awesome. My brother (32 years experience) said to me that everyone puts their foot down when turning occasionally and its a ridiculous thing to be pulled up on these days. So.... decisions to be made... 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted Friday at 22:57 Posted Friday at 22:57 Ye, I did the same on mine with the figure of eight. Maddening. Quote

Yes, I did this only this week. Don't think anyone saw me mind, so it doesn't fully count. That's a pants outcome @muldoon74, and a crap decision you have to make. If there's a way not to sell the bike, see if you can make it work. Can you book a CBT and cancel it if a cancellation slot comes available? Quote
S-Westerly Posted Saturday at 09:48 Posted Saturday at 09:48 I think a lot of people doing a tight low (walking) speed turn put their foot down. Not saying it's right but it's a reflex. Quote
bud Posted Saturday at 21:12 Posted Saturday at 21:12 That's a real shame. You will just have to try again. It will be worth it. Quote
Bungleaio Posted Monday at 19:26 Posted Monday at 19:26 sorry you didn’t pass, it’s a tricky test. Did you have any training for the test or did you just go for it? Quote

Watched a few YouTube videos so I could get a handle on the order of tests etc.. other than that only training is just over 2500 miles on my bike and going to local car park/industrial estate and doing 10/15 mins of u turns figure 8s before or after most rides.. one mistake and my confidence went… oh well. Next time! Quote
Hairsy Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I used to coach paragliding and I would constantly have to remind people that the phrase 'practice makes perfect' is rarely true. The reality is that 'practice makes permanent' but, without training, there's no guarantee that what we're practicing is even close to perfect. It might work for 98% of situations but Mod 1 is all about the 2%. Your 2,500 miles may well have really helped with the 98% but perhaps less so for the 2%? Coaching & instruction leads to doing things right - and THEN there's the potential for practice to make perfect. So my advice would be to pay for a little tuition from a local school on how to pass the Mod 1. 2,500 miles is definitely enough miles to have developed strong muscle memory but you may well find that there are tiny little tips that a good instructor can give you that will really help you. If you're already pretty much on top of all the skills then it won't have cost you much. If you're not yet there then it will have been a great investment. I hope it goes well for you. 1 Quote
