wonder if all the road closures over the past couple of years  has led to this

What road closures? The pass and all the other road's have always been open when I've gone through there.

Probably got my roads mixed up. Which place was partially closed to traffic for a long period due to landslides, yet cyclists thought it didn't apply to them?

I would say it's a knock on effect of the general economy.

Less obvious nowadays but shops and businesses closing daily is still very high.

Hardly compensated by new ones opening, which don't last long.

Consumers have been pinched hard since COVID and with war on our doorstep.

Then you have the tax rise from 5th April with more coming up in next few months if not weeks.

Then everyone is avoiding going out, even for Sunday drive and a break.

Has become too expensive for most people.

I think that was Snake Pass you're confusing it with.  I know they closed it a couple of years back and there was a big kick off by the cycling community ....... Great shame about the Ponderosa, was a great stop off for a brew and to chew the fat with other bikers.  Doesn't surprise me sadly and I think there'll be more to follow.

I think that was in the Peak district but I maybe wrong.

As far as a site for a cafe goes it has a lot going for it. It's not just us bikers that used it, car clubs, walkers, cyclists as well as just general tourist used it. On a sunny Sunday people were litterally queueing up to get in. Maybe the problem was the owners didn't know how to extract the money out of peoples pockets efficiently, but there was no shortage of punters.

The first closure was the A625 in the late 70s, the most recent, though not yet closed is Snake Pass

I believe the problems began a while back when the proprietor was handed a term in jail. The quality of the food has always been mediocre at best. The atmosphere was like a school canteen during an Ofsted inspection. We avoided it and went to Old Stores instead. I hope that Old Stores doesn't get swamped by the folks who used to go to the Ponderosa.

I suspect the Horseshoe Pass being restricted to 40mph didn't help.

I wasn't really a fan of pondarosa!

Good roads round there but the canteen style and mediocre food would have put a lot of people off!

If I lived in the area I probably wouldn't bother going but the once a year we headed to Wales it was OK for a stop off

Although it was always busy every time we was there
