have you got power in the garage?
if so get yourself a optimate charger and connect it everytime you park your bike up otherwise you will be buying yourself a new battery sooner rather then later
as for the starting issue
you have a cold arse bike
-
give chain a damn good clean then stick some oil on it go for a quick ride to work it into the chain clean bike as its shitty out there then re-apply some oil
-
you dont need a new chain if its got a bit of rust on
you will find its probably just surface rust
have you got and old engine oil ? give it a right good coat before you go away
-
only by ear
-
does it tick over ok ? if not could just be low tick over setting
has it only started since the weather got cold ? could be carb icing
-
I've figured out the adult section I think. What's in the garage anyway?
you will see WHEN its back online
-
I'm just wondering, if I post this message whether I get access to the garage section? Lets see shall we...
no
the garage is offline until further notice
i have recently upgraded the forum and awaiting a new version of the garage to be released

I might rename this thread as 'Phatdads motorbike problems' instead of creating a new thread each time I have a problem.
i dont see why not
-
if it was nice and cold out it could be a spot of carb icing
but it deffo sounds like your battery is flat and in need of a good charge or a new one
-
i just use one of my 4 filter wrench's i have in my tool box
-
once the bike has started it should run fine off the output from the charging system not the battery
but it does sound as if your battery is duff anyway so may aswell replace that
with it been stood a year have you put fresh fuel in the tank ?

who said i was a hard hull biker
bikes got no tax and i dont intend going out on it in shit weather i did it in my first year of riding and i dont see the point freezing my nuts off when i have a car
it would be like jumping off a cliff when you could go down the steps instead

when running overly rich you can also encounter what is known as bore washing which is where the excess fuel strips the oil from the cylinder walls which as you can imagine is not particularly good.
and it can run down the barrel into the sump as found on early the TLs
-
if you do start adjusting it make sure you have around 5mm of play at the end of the lever
-
ok i will explain more
if you remove your air filter and run the bike it will be lean as there is more air going in and not the right amount of fuel to match it
-
low fuel to air ratio
-

it can take around 15 mins at 4000 rpm to get a battery back to its original state it was before you hit the starter
and when in the cold you need more juice to crank over an engine so i wouldnt be surprised as by the time 15 mins comes he could already be at work
my dad land rover does it in the cold he only goes around 5 miles a day and every 3 or 4 weeks he has to top the charge up its great after a long run though
