  1. Having just failed to zip my new jacket and trousers together, they're different brands, this is a good Idea. Thanks guys.
  2. Bulbs... Got my first bike in over 20 years home in the dark, and it was dismal. So, new pair of Halfords H4 150% brighter, and LED side light bulbs. Wow, what a difference! Also replaced a bulb in the speedo as I struggled to see the lower numbers, actually thought I was doing 60, but it turned out to be 25 (it's been a while)
  3. I like to zip. Prevention of road-rash on the coccyx if I accidentally dismount, and it's more comfy than feeling like I'm not quite dressed properly. I imagine if you're sat upright, the comfort thing isn't so obvious compared to reaching forward with the jacket riding up?
  4. Could you find out who manufactures the OEM? They're not likely to be made by Triumph, maybe it's known brand.
  5. That's cool, I have found a hand made leather looking polymer one, but it's £175. Thermals will be better value.
  6. Aha, right. Many, many thanks good people. I was wearing some FLM lined, windproof and waterproof trousers, but that's all. I was obviously, very much underestimating what I needed. Very pleased with the second hand Bering armoured textile jacket. That has a removable inner jacket too, and only £50 from eBay. Gloves were great too.
  7. I appreciate it's three years later, but do you still have any left?
  8. Although I now have a bike, we're pretty much "in the same boat". Good luck going forward.
  9. No, it's not a dodgy pervy post (sorry). Having not ridden for over twenty years, I collected my bike late Wednesday afternoon. It was dark, the roads were greasy and the temperature was -1. So, to the point, I had the odd part of me get cold, but it soon went, apart from where my legs were wrapped around the tank, my thighs got quite cold. Obviously from the contact with the cold tank, which was full of cold petrol. Can anyone recommend a "winter(?)" tank cover? Would it make a difference? Part of me thinks I'm really not likely to be riding in such cold conditions, so I shouldn't bother, but, just a though. Cheers Simon
  10. This is the same a keeping a reef tank, the mantra is: "they were on offer darling, only £75".. Problem is, when you have a few grands worth of gear, she/he then thinks it's only worth a few hundred.
  11. It's everything though, everything I just bought to start riding again, have to have the mahoosive size. Wonder how genuinely big people get by.
  12. I had the opposite problem, if I managed to get a foot in the boot, it was sooooo narrow. Just used my BKS Storm for the first time. It was -1 and they were great, so comfy and warm.
  13. Learned my first lesson coming back to motorcycling. Don't bother ordering boots, jackets, gloves, helmets or trousers online, the designers all seem to share the same tiny little tape measures.. I've gone from size 11 boots to size 13, medium helmet to XXL, and basically up two sizes in everything else. Thankfully Sportsbikeshop were good with refunds. Maybe I need to eat less pies
  14. Plans are a few days away in the UK now and again (for now anyhoo). But I'm already daydreaming about touring the south of France and Italy.
  15. I understand exactly where you're coming from. Thing is, the above 1200 has 17k on the clock, the most favourable reviews, apart from heavy road rash down the left side of the fairing it's looks to be in otherwise perfect condition, and it only cost me £1500. It was an impulse buy, but I had been looking (drooling) at BMW GS, and other big tourers, I just like big and heavy, forget the speed, the 1200 having so much power is just incidental, it's everything else about the bike I want.
  16. Why would you get picked on? You raise a valid point. Do I need a 1200? Nope, but then I don't actually need a bike, well, mentally I do As for what's right, yes, I think a heavy, old and out of date sports tourer is right for me, I'll never have the money to buy anything more "up to date". Do I need an up to date and modern machine, no, I just want something that's comfy all day and that will cruise up to and around Scotland without have to change gear a trillion times (it has a very wide power band). Thanks for your time @RideWithStyles
  17. By the way, my missus hates the idea, she hasn't seen it, it will be locked out of sight, and as far as she's concerned, it a Honda Cub 90
  18. Thanks! Yes just cosmetic, they run it now and then, and he started her up whilst I was there, it sounded so sweet, still nice and tight.
  19. Cheers @bonio & @JRH It's only got 17k on the clock, previous owner was about to sell it, so he asked said dealer to service it and MOT it, then got knocked off a few days later. Scrapes on the fairing, broken indicator and gear lever. It was written off by the insurance as being 2005 it was only worth a few grand anyway, I got it darned cheap.
  20. Hello good people, I've come back to riding after a mini-cab took my ZX6R from under me, more than 20 years ago. I'm in my late 50's and have been getting "the urge" to ride again for quite some time. So, I thought I'd buy something sensible, especially as it's been so long, nothing really fast and racy like the ZX, in my time I've had classics like Z1300 and a CB1000. We have a farm, and I took our failing old quad bike in to the local workshop, who happens to also sell Lexmoto, they only seemed to have 125's and I asked if he had anything bigger, just this old ZZR1200 he said, we've had it for over a year and it needs a little cosmetic attention. Well, I couldn't believe he forced me to buy it, I hope to collect it this coming week, so much for something sensible, I'm considering taking extra underwear just in case
